Wingham and Southampton
should continue their
aggressive play after re-
.lwFilding years. The two new
teams should arouse some
interest, coming from some
einthusiastic hockey areas.
In connection with the
'coming hockey season,' the
Sailors executive has
received the tickets for the
third annual Sports Celebrity
Dinner to be held in Goderich

United team
shuts out Delhi
BY FRED
SCHOEMAKER
It was a goaltender's
battle for both sides of the
field Sunday during
Goderich united B soccer
action. Diving from one side
to, another, Paul (The Hulk)
Helesic achieved a shut -out
for the Bs against Delhi.
Like the last game played
by the Bs, , it rained from
start to finish. In the first
half within seconds, Mike
(Woody) Wedlock scored. He
ran down the left side of the
field, moved to the right,
went around the defence on
his left, came in on the goalie
and finally drove it into the
lower left hand corner of the
net. This goal proved to be
the winner. The half ended 1-
0 for the Bs.
In the second half, with the
wind advantage and strong
defence, the Delhi team
hardly saw the centre of the
field. The one thing going for
the Delhi team was their
goalie. Despite all the shots
from the Bs, the game ended
at 1-0.
The whole B .. team.
deserves credit but
honorable mention goes to
the four guys in the back
field, Ian Chisholm, Chris
Wood and Paul (Dil)
Dougherty at defence and
Paul Hel sic, the goalie.
Dick Schoemaker has been
sitting on the sidelines for
awhile because of a leg in-
jury and is just dying to get
out there and play. The team
misses him.
The Bs' next game will be
played September 11 in
London against the Poachers
who are currently in first
place.
The Goderich United B
Stingers are now in second
place in the third division
with 21 points.
A Golden Singles Tennis Tournament was held for the first time at the Maitland Country
Club for players 29 years of age and older on August 21. At left is Bob Dick who won the 'A'
event by defeating Paul Brown (centre) 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 and at right is Mel Gilbert who won the
`B' event by defeating Fred Jewell 6.3, 6.3. (Photo by Brian Warrllow)
