OPP urge safety Everyone ,involved in the business of public safety is concerned about the dumber of preventable tragedies that. occur on highways on holi- day weekends. Ontario Provincial Police Commissioner Jim Erskine is making a personal appeal to all drivers who venture onto the highways this Labor Day weekend. "Make a special effort to think safety," says Comm. Erskine. "We all need to. re- mind ourselves about driv- ing „ defensively, staying alert and the fact that alcohol and driving can spell death or serious injuries to ourselves and loved ones." "Driving in heavy traffic demands discipline, skill and complete attention to con- trolling . your vehicle," he says. , "If drivers would take a moment to consider the responsibility they accept before starting the engine of their vehicle, that burden would serve as a constant reminder," Comm. Erskine concludes. Please join" all O.P.P. of- ficers in working together to prevent accidents.
