Going
ack to school - 'it's boring, boring'
Clockwise from left Mark Baruma, Brian
and Bradley Hutchins - 'just terrible'
By T.Marr
September 7 is quickly
approaching and for many
adults it will just be another
Tuesday; a day that isn't
much different from any
other.
But for kids all across
Canada, September 7 is very
important. The day marks
the end of carefree summer
days and the start of a new
school year.
This year, just like every
other year, there are kids
who are dreading not only
the first 'day but the whole
school year.
Brian Hutchins, who will
be entering Grade 6 at
Victoria Public School, is one
of those kids. The idea of
another year of looking at
classroom walls does not
please the 11 -year-old.
"I think it's just terrible,".
he says.
Then he explains, "I'm
looking forward to going into,
a different grade but I know
what it will be like. At the
start of last year it was fun,
then I hated it. The start is
okay, then in the middle it
gets boring, boring, boring."
He adds, "There is too much
homework too."
Third grader Mark
Baruma who -is, "seven -and -
a -half but I will be eight
tomorrow" agrees with
Brian. "I think it's terrible
too. Just like Brian says, it is
boring."
Brian's five-year-old
brother Bradley does not
agree with his sibling's
opinion. He says, "T like
school 'cause I want to go to
Grade 1."
He admits that he enjoyed
kindergarten because, "I
i idn't. _tiewe _ to do -a--whole
bunch of stuff." But he adds,
"We only got to play for an

*sack will be entering
trade 3 at Robertson this
fall and says, "I''m not
looking forward to it. In the
summer ,I played soccer and
baseball and for the next two
weeks I'm going to hockey
school in Clinton. I would
rather be playing soccer or
baseball than going to
school." .
Itis not only the boys who
are not too enthused about
returning to school. Fifteen -
year -old Jennifer Dobie
says, "I'm not too happy
about it really. .I would
rather be doing nothing than
going to school because it's
boring."
Seventh grader Jennifer
Hosack agrees. She says,
"I'm not really too stuck on
It. It's boring."
Just as there are kids who
do not want to go back to
school, there are also those
who do.
Tanya Glousher, who will
be starting Grade 3 at Vic-
toria
iatoria Public School says, "I
can hardly wait. I like it
'cause sometimes when you
are home there isn't much to
do and when you are at
school you can work and
learn about things."
Tanya's six-year-old sister
Aleshea is also looking,,
forward to school but for a
different 'reason. She says
she wants to return "because
there's stuff to play on."
Ten -year-old Katie Waters
is looking forward to the
start of the school year
because, "I. miss my friends
and teachers. I also miss the
tests and gym class. I really
\like those."
o
Perhaps Katie's 11 -year-
old sister Heather stens it up
best for both the kids who
dislike school and those who
love it. As she explains the
whole experience, "In a way
I'm really looking forward to
it. I want to see my friends
because I have missed them
but ,I really don't want, to get
back to all the; work."
