Jim Hayter of Hayter Chev-Olds has requested action on the tree for six years, claiming a sticky substance from the tree is causing damage to new cars. In April of 1976 council opted for severe pruning as a corrective measure rather than removal of the tree. Last week Hayter, in a written submission to the parks committee, again requested .`the tree be removed and the committee agreed to comply . with the request. Councillor Elsa Haydon questioned the rights of a committee to overrule a decision of council which prompted the special council meeting Tuesday.
