It was just one year ago that the Steelers, after rolling to first place, were bounced by eighth place Canada Company. The roles have changed hands this year as Lakeport Steel ap- pears to have found the hitting touch that has been missing all year. Ron Miller led the Steelers with three hits while Dan Maillet, Brian MacKenzie and Cann Fielder had two hits apiece. Wayne Draper threw a four - hitter at undermanned\ Advertising who were missing three starters. Frayne leads way Mike Frayne was a one- man wrecking crew as he blasted his former team- mates for four hits , in- cluding two home rims,. four runs scored and four runs batted in, 'as Canada Com- pany outlasted Kirkey's 14-7. CC took a 6-1 lead in the third scoring five times but Kirkey's unloaded against starter Glen Tigert scoring four runs in their half of the third and put the tying run on second with none out, but Dean Dohertycame in to put out the fire retiring the next three batters. CC then added one in the fifth before ex- ploding zploding for six runs in the sixth inning to put the game away. Glen Tigert had a homer and triple for CC while Brian Shewfelt, Mark Frayne and Bill Tigert also' had two hits. Ken Daer and -Rick and Ron Sowerby each had two hits for Kirkey's. CC now holds a 2-0 lead in the series. Denonnme's win John Verway threw a five - hitter while his teammates took advantage of five Hayter errors as Denom- me's defeated Hayter's 5.1 to grab a 2-0 lead in their series. Denomme's took a 2-1 lead in the second inning when Jim Durst reached first and went to third on Wally Pierson's single. Durst: scored on the play when the throw to third was wild. Clare Harmon then singled home Pierson. Durst drove home the third run in the third when he singled home Jim Bell. They added two more. in the fifth when John Hoy and Harmon singled and scored two outs later on a ' wild- throw. Pierson led..Denomme's with two hits as did Harmon. Doug Fisher had two hits for Hayter's. Dave Scholl allowed just six hits but his defence crumbled around him. Bill Black figured in all Bedford scoring as they edged French 4-3. With one out in the first Terry Austin walked and Black lost one • over the left field fence. French got one back in the third when Kevin Jewell tripled and scored on Wayne Kennedy's single. Bedford struck again in the fourth as Austin walked and scored on Black's triple. Black scored on the play when the throw to third was wild.
