(Photo by kris Svela ) GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 25, 19112 -PAGE 3 Fair offered something -for everyone Fine weather and good attendance con- tributed to a successful 123rd Dungannon Fall Fair held last Friday and Saturday. Organizers were pleased with the turnout on Saturday under sunny skies. The fair offered something for every member of the family. On Friday there was a tug of war, chainsaw, arm wrestling and other competitions as well as a variety of' fine foods and baking. Attendance was good on Friday but increased considerably by Satur- day. On turday the main attraction was the horse titian with several breeders compe ng t any categories. Single and team orses ere entered in the various compe itions ju ged by Lorne Ross of St. Marys The b by contest also attracted a number of onlookers ar)d supporters, The children were juded ,in three categories?, up to 4 months, 5 to 8 months and 9 to 12 months. Bale Throwing. contest - Men's, Gord Kemp, Jim McKinnon; ladies, ;Donna Hayden, Debbie Drennan. Watermelon Seed Spitting: 6 yrs. and under. Jamie Chis- holm; 12 yrs. and under. Michael Pentland; ladies. Debbie Lumly; men. Rick Edward. Horse Shoe Pitching: men, Alex Boa, Jerry Rivett, Har- old Pridham; ladies, Judy Sproul, Mary. Ann Brindley, Doris Fielder. Log, Sawing: men, Bill Mc- Whinney and Jack Pentland, John Fielder aad Art Stew- art, Ron Pentland and Ron of Carlow took top honours. Eliza Jane Smyth of Auburn captured first place in the 51 to 8 month group and Laurie Anne Mengers took top honours in the final class. The fair alsa-offered local and area people an opportunity to display their baked and quilted goods' and as well as a variety of hobbies. The highlight of the day was the parade which this year featured 32 entries. Leading the floats, riders and bands was the Miss Dungannon Fall Fair. Queen. Carol Alglne Smyth. She reeetveo the honour of being the first fair queen in the fair's long history. Other entries were equally interesting with brightly decorated horses and car- riages, antique cars, buggies, marching bands and other participants. With all the interest generated by the fair and the response of the public this year's event was the most successful fair to date.
