In western On- tario alone the banks have really put the backs if farmers against the wall," says Marie Might. Regional Co-ordinator, National Fanners Wen - "It would appear as if farmers have been set up in the area of finances, by the financial institutes.. When apparently well run andwell managed farm operations are pulled into receivership, on demand notes extended by the bank, especially when those farmers have kept abreast with their payments, the question arises, 'What is going on in the financial institutes?'," continues Mrs. Bright says there is a real need for farmers to take a long and serious look at what kind of financing the Financial Institutes are forcing them into. When banks are. telling ..fafTher.4, 'they must put up double or more the amount .of money they are actually applying to borrow for security, or want all money borrowed for an operation to be borrowed from than and telling far- mers that their only options are blanket mortgages, then Mrs. Bright says that far- mers had better start realizing at this point that the banks have total control of their holdings, and that they are no longer working as farmers in business for themselves. Mrs. representative of farmers in Antiques were viewed by more than 1,000 people who visited the Bluewater Centre Volun- teer Association's fifth annual antique skew and sale held last Friday and Saturday. Attendance at the show has increased every year. (Photo by Joanne Buchanan) the National Farmers Union, would issue a strong warning to farmers to dig into the manner in which the banks are proposing to lend money to them. "Consult a lawyer as to what the documents they are signing actually mean. This is imperative, and be sure it is a lawyer which you have absolute confidence in. FantiernaliiiiildbetarefUlta -- keep accounts in line and also check monthly bank statements very carefully. Keep a close check on all bank charges and also on interest charges. This is going to be important to the survival of farming finan- cially *the coining year." "In - the past year, land values have been on a declining trend and farmers must realize this or amounts of. money borrowed will Very quickly put them into a loss .R94.4.1.911.iayning operation,"r Concluded Mrs. Bright , .
