underhandedness dealing
with farmers and small
buinesses. In western On-
tario alone the banks have
really put the backs if
farmers against the wall,"
says Marie Might. Regional

"It would appear as if
farmers have been set up in
the area of finances, by the
financial institutes.. When
apparently well run andwell
managed farm operations
are pulled into receivership,
on demand notes extended
by the bank, especially when
those farmers have kept
abreast with their payments,
the question arises, 'What is
going on in the financial
institutes?'," continues Mrs.
Bright says there is a real
need for farmers to take a
long and serious look at what
kind of financing the
Financial Institutes are
forcing them into. When
banks are. telling ..fafTher.4,
'they must put up double or
more the amount .of money
they are actually applying to
borrow for security, or want
all money borrowed for an
operation to be borrowed
from than and telling far-
mers that their only options
are blanket mortgages, then
Mrs. Bright says that far-
mers had better start
realizing at this point that
the banks have total control
of their holdings, and that
they are no longer working
as farmers in business for
themselves.
