This was • the fourth such canal which, since 1829, allowed ships to pass between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario The present canal consists of eight locks and stretches close to 27 miles from Port -Weller --to- -Port- • Colborne. Vessels up to .222.50 metres (730feet) long may. transit tCISsotto - the system. Actually vessels had been using the fourth canal since late in 1930.
