LOCHALSH NEWS Kae Webster, 395-5E57 Jack Maclennan of Strat- ford tratford is staying a couple of days with his mother, Mrs. Rhetta MacL,enan. Jim Webster of Waterloo and his mother, Mrs. Kae Webster spent'a few days in Richfield.- Ohio with Atlee, Jean and Tricia Wise and Cecil Webster. One of the main places of interest they visited .in Akron, Ohio, was the mansion built by Sam E_ Seiberling, the founder of Goodyear. It is a living link with Tudor England.. It is now known as Stan Hywett Hall. It has suety -five rooms and aapproximately 30 Most of Cru. roams s are furnished in 14th and 15th century furnishings. Needless to say the mansion and the grounds are marvelous. It consists now of seventy acres and originally there were 3,000 acres. It is a great place to see if you are in the area. Jim and Kae saw two baseball games that Tricia Wise played in. Her team, the Blue Streaks, have won the championship. It is the eight to eleven age group and Round 'n About Sunday morning I heard a toot -toot from the harbour. I couldn't tell if the ship was corning in or going out butt just HAD to know. Walt thinks I'm off my rocker - suddenly jumping into the car and heading for the dock, but to fell the truth I MISSED seeing these big fellows inching their way around our harbour and the "Little Toots" huffing busily about swinging the big brute around into place. The Robert S. Pierson had just arrived. "Soo River Company" was painted in very large letters on the side. of the ship. It was headed for the elevators. Once it was in the Basin (as I think of it), the Donald Bert tugs went into motion. The three of them were beautiful. A huge curly tail of rope adorns the nose of each tug. Bright insignia is carefully painted on the cabins and every inch of the work ship is brightly painted and was shining proudly in the sun. It was plain to see that Donald Bert has young helpers who like fussing with the jugs. They huffed back and forth until the big ship was nosed - in properly, then they took overpushing and grunting until they had it lined up beside the -big elevators. I was surprised and pleased. - to see so many people on the dock. Didn't see a' soul that I knew - imagine! - Quite a few had cameras and were snap -snapping every time a huge puff of black smoke erupted from the stack of the big ship. This one, I was informed, is the last of the coal burners - the black smokers. They, too are breaking the smoking habit. (Thank goodness). , Actually, I miss the plumes of smoke trailing the trains and ships. It was very colorful - may I say 'beautiful9 - curling through there are four teams in the league. On Thursday even- ing they saw Atlee Wise play on his team. They won the -game: eIt .-was- the--Village-n. Drive Thru team made up of 'dreamt) of the area. Harold and Betty Anne Elphick entertained the Elphick family on Sunday at their home in honour of their niece Kendra Elphick, prior to her marriage in August. Amy Rotteau, daughter of Brad and Dianne Rotteau of Ai nberley, is spending a week at camp at silver Lake while her sister, Emily spent a few days at Amberley Beach with her grand- -"aids, Mr. and ATM, .Peter ______ Rotteau and her cousins, Ed- die and Michelle Rotteau. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Robb have their two grand- children, Darryl and Meredith McClutcheon of Lions Head with them for a week. On Friday they had their daughter and son-in- law, Sandra and.Bob.Darling of Hanover stay for a few hours and Shelly Irvin, daughter of William and Shirley Irvin spent a couple of days at her grandparents' home. (Martha Rathburn the sky. I loved watching it - later hated it when I realized what it was doing to our world. Kid stuff! But I hope I never grow up! Our beaches are nice and colorful - the Parks staff are good workers - I just wish the screwballs who damage the properties could be made to repair and renew the things they damage - besides paying for the materials. This would give them respect for property and respect for money and people besides learning respect for themselves. When they have this, they will protect instead of smash , other wople's property - they would be safe to live with. ' Respect has to be taught them before they start to walk. They have your number by the time they are two years old. The little wheels are turning and they have control before they are seven. This must scare, or should scare, the young mothers and fathers to pieces. The big let -down in the discipline department many years ago was when they took the strap away from the schools, made people think they were th"Martha wrong to spank and started giving and giving the . kids without the "giving" in return. The young people will not thank the parents for being softies. They will do as they wish when they are teens. The young fathers and mothers are really on the spot. The oldsters know that the improvement has to be made at home - by them - but do these young people know how to do it? Several generations of fathers and mothers have not had this discipline and so it has been easy to let the kids go - and disown them when they became unruly, unthinking teeners. Some parents, I know, are really trying to give their kids a good start. These are the ones who will reach the top when they are full grown. They will know how to think and DO, how to enforce the laws, teach respect and discipline and love for others and their property. They will make a world that doesn't need to fear the bomb, will teach their children to love their parents who were concerned for their future. It will be worth all the effort and heartache - We hope we can heti). . ,Love, Martha. A lot of pea ple all life "The Survival of the 'Fittest". You know, a lot . of people are right. 4011 dd •
