Simon play enjoyable
THFATRE :AVL
BY JOANNE
BUCHANAN
I Ought To Be la Pictures,
Neil Simon's recent
Broadway c+mach, has been
brought to the Huron
Country Playhouse stage
loaded with one-liners and
featuring a few punt
moments in typical Simon -
style. The production opened
--last Wednesdayevening
under the direction of
Playhouse artistic director,
Aileen Taylor -Smith and will
rum until July 24,
,nam a:YcXash as—'a.ahb
Tucker and Richard M.
Davidson as her father ` erb
fit well into their roles but
more importantly they fit
well together. They interact
'smoothlyand naturally and
seem to have their timing
just right for the Simon
humor they must deliver.
The plot -line revolves
around Libby, a tenacious 19 -
year -old from Brooklyn ( just
listen to her accent! ), who
hitch -hikes to California to
visit her scriptwriter father
who hasn't seen her in 16.
years. LAW says the Pur-
pose of her trip to California
is to land a job in the movies
but it becomes obvious asthe
pay advances that what she
really warts is to get to know
the man who left her mother
so many years ago.
Wye the lust act drags a
bit as Herb and Libby try to
work out their feelings of
guiltand anger the secend
act picks up as Herb ex-
periences
xperiences the woes of
fatherhood and comes to a
hcattear sanrisarctvanaiiner ear the
daughter and Libby les
down her defencesand
shows the vulnerable side of
her nattue. The climactic
emotional scene
from all of this is resulting
very well.
Irene Panzer rounds out
the small cast as Steffy,
Herb's evert -wise girlfriend.
Mark Cole's set
small bungalow in West
Hollywood—is quite good.
The Playhouse has another
enjoyable production on its
hands here.

THIS week is our
"FESTIVAL OF THE
ARTS". Don't miss it, pray a
little for good weather and...

glad
glad they are keeping this
Festival and the Carnival
separated - the two just don't
mix. Having the two weeks
of festivities in our lovely
Count House Park is just
great -for everybody. There
are so many activities going
on that - no-one need say
"There's nothing to do".
The r_atartBowling cab
on Picton Street is busy
nearly every day. Now,
THAT is a real good game -
great exercise and com-
petitive enough to entertain

greens just anytime people
are there. There are lawn
bowls you can use - free - and,
you can learn the game
without great expense. TRY
it, you'll LIKE it.
There's, always lots of
activity at Ag. Park - besides
the race night - sornething
else todo.
And too, there are several
ball diamonds - around the
town and district where you,
can enjoy the ball games
with -kids of all ages.
Altho' I had enjoyed our
Signal -Star all winter, the
first thing to -day had to be
looking back through the -
papers to refresh my
memory. I have a good
memory - for things I want to
remember. With all my
forgetfulness, I have to
realize that one can only
store so many things away in
the memory box to be able to
recall them when you want
them. After being away so
long, I find I'm stumbling
over names of people I have
known . for years. Very
embarrassing! 1
There are always
orad tiltilids to bringback ..__

yozlr fading memory. - What
would wedo without one?
I'm afraid I won't be in the
Park this week -just can't be
away from home all three
days'- but I do have several
nice - new paintings to show
Have a good weekend.
Love, Martha.
