Doug and 113 Madeline (my son and his wife) had a lovely new home li built in South Venice. I helped pack and unpack. It ' takes a lot of time - you :A forget just how much if you haven't_moved in..12 years- 0 They had their home built to their specifications - and a lot of thought and love went into it. It is hard to believe that such a large home could be built in so short a time. A large heavily wooded lot had to be cleared. They started - the contractors, that is - on December 12 and were all finished by the second week in February. Doug said he had never seen so many men, so busy on one house before. By the time their friends from Holland arrived, they were more or less settled. Ther"'e is a nice, small lake behind them and eight homes encircle this lake. It was man-made many years ago and is now stabalized - no slime or crud! It is just,a beautiful site with all the birds and turtles. I saw a cormorant one day in it and a large blue. heron, larger than any I had seen at home, is a regular visitor. I also saw a large white bird wingspread of six feet - at least - looked like a heron or an egret. The area is a bird sanctuary. It is hard to believe the MacPhersons are in their new home so soon - lawn O laid, pool ready, house finished. This was good for C them after two tragedies, they are recovering. Our old friends, since Doug was in G.D.C.I., Matt ® and Janie Jordan, who have o been in Europe since around W 1950, have bought a home in m Fort Meyers for their retire- „♦ ment in two years. Doug and ,ffli Madeline visited with them m when they were all in Ger- 73 many, then the Jordans transferred to a V.I.P. Government village - SHAPE near Brussels, Belgium, and the MacPher- R* sons returned to Canada. Their daughter grown, mar- ried with a grown daughter and living in California, carne with them to Doug's and we had a great reunion. They looked wonderful. The time slips by so quick- ly - but we will be back horne soon. I miss our Spring and the flowers - but the for- sythia will be blooming along the highway from Cin- ci to ,Toledo, then NOTIIING 'Until you -hit Windsor.
