The Goderich Signal-Star, 1982-04-28, Page 28PAGE 10A-GODERICH SIGNAI4,STAR, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 28, 1982 Round 'n' About with Mirth. Ftothburn Advertised WO is "Nction Vicar COME N DOW to AND SAVE. IT'S OUR LL: • Hi, there! Oh, I haven't forgotten you., I have been just as busy in the sunshine here in Florida as you have in the show. I'm sure, at times, your days were not nearly as pleasant as ours, but when 1 ask what kind of winter you have had, the answer will be the, same as ever - "A nice winter - not bad at all." So, I tell myself I shouldn't, believe the weathertnan and his maps - but perhaps, this year, I had better ignore talking about it (but I know it has been a baddie!). I think the state of the weather depends on your health and . your friends.- , Alsori-khovo-thaVmhen-the-- crotus and daffodils and other Spring flowers ap- peared, you completely forgot the storms and cold. There are so many beautiful flowers blooming continuously here that many people don't even SEE them. But 1 appreciate and enjoy them. Each day has been a joy of discovery and I thank the Good Lord for it. So, I'm glad the winter is over and the birds are coming back - you are seeing the robins - I haven't seen one at all this winter. The last time I saw them down here, they were CIL, drunk and disorderly! What a sight. But they like the red juicy fruit of the pepper trees - I was told that was the 4 source for their binge. . \ We have been having some CC teal hot cbys and you beim tor 111 be. careftil. .The vacationers ligiaadritifne' bad, lisuitis but " they seem to brown up in a SW short time. 1 have been delinquent in my letter writing • just can't seem to get it finished - I have severalstarted, but...! ' JI I had a nice letter from the .11 Reverend* L Stewart , of Seaforth who started us out on the stories of the cows 0 which folks tethered along the river and, many of them (the cows) Just came home alone at evemnig time, taking shortcuts through ' the Square. • This reminded Mr. O'Reil- ly - Melvin J. that is, of Wind- sor, to tell me of his aunt, Mrs. Paddy Finn and her eight . sons who lived on Brock Street many years ago. They also had amusing stories of the cows. Mr. O'Reilly - oh, really, O'Reilly! sent an interesting news letter of a very wonder- ful woman - his sister. I in- tend to let you read 'about this beautiful lady and her great accomplishments ... later. I promise! . • I want to thank Mr. O'Reil- ly and the Reverend Stewart for their interesting letters and say I'M sorry I haven't taken care of them sooner. (These are wonderful . old gentlemen! ) Cold and heat do in- teresting things to the vegetation. A friend Mary has a peach tree - it had never experienced real .`COLD' (it doesn't KNJW, cold! ). This year we 1qd some very cold winds temperature down to low for- ties at times and chill factor much lower - but it didn't do the damage as done last winter. Oh, the peach tree - well, it was loaded with blossoms this spring - not loaded - not like OUR trees, but I think every flower pro- duced fruit. For the four years 1 have known it, the fruit were small and hard - didn't really ripen. This year the fruit was larger (about half the\ size of. OUR peaches) and sweet and were generously passed around. I told Mary all it needed was some real cold to wake it up. The Jacaranda trees of blue and mauve, the gold trees, orchid and so many other great, large flowering trees, make exciting scenery. There are so many hap- penings one would never want for something to do or see. I have tried to get out to a lot of them, but I have tee -rt • Tun] to.page 11A • FINE GRANULATED White Sugar 59 BAG BALE OF 5 - 12.95 SAVE 5.00 OUR REGULAR PRICE 3.59 CREAM OF MUSHROOM am:pbell's Soup 10 fl oz •tins MI OUR REGULAR PRICE .53 EACH' POWDERED LAUNDRY Tide.
