The general monthly
meeting of Goderich Legion
Branch 109 was held in the
Jubilee Room on Tuesday,
April 6 with, President
William Burke in the chair.
Applications for ordinary
membership in Branch 109
were accepted from H.J.
Furlong, M.A. Craig, D.A.
Forbes, J. Shuter and D.
Smith. • Accepted as
associate members were
L.B. Sheardown, LM. ,Ken-
ny, A.G. Delbergue R.
Delbergue, F.E. Morris,
W.T. Irwin and L.C. Taylor.
M. Dalton and G.H.
Schwartz were accepted as
fraternal affiliate members.
As of March 30, 1982 the
total membership of Branch
109 was 938, consisting of 18
Life, 424 Ordinary, 270
Associate, voting, 12
Associate, non-voting, 16
Honorary and 198 Fraternal
Affiliate members. This is
an increase of 113 members
from the same date last
year.
The Branch approved a
donation of $5,000 to the
Parkwood Hospital Building
Fund. The construction at
• this hospital will incllide a
wing for war veterans and
replace the veterans' ward
at Westminster Hospital.
A motion was passed to
donate $5,000 to the Alexan-
dra and Marine Hospital.
The Homestead Group
Home, south of Goderich on
Highway 21 was granted
$1,000 for the purchase of a
dishwasher, with any monies
remaining to be spent at the
discretion of the Group
Home.
The Branch voted in
favour of the purchase of two
• sets of sweaters and socks in
Legion colours for a midget
hockey team at a maximum
cost of $1,615, in support of
minor hockey next year.
A Motion was passed to
donate two flag poles and
flags for the Senior Citizens
Home on West Street at a
cost of $155. These are to be
installed before the official
opening in May.
• It was noted that these
donations to community
causes was made possible
• from a special account
which derives its funds from
the sale of Nevada tickets at
the Branch.
Other donations approved
at • this meeting by the
Branch. included. $100 to the
LadieS91uxiliary in support
of their -annual -in-vitationall_...
bowling tournament and $25
to the Easter Seal Cam-
paign.
Property chairman Harold
Chambers reported that
panic bars will be installed
on the front door of the hall.
The installation of a key card
system to control the en-
trance of personnel into the
Branch will be further
discussed when a represen-
tative of the company is able
to visit the Branch and ad-
vise on the installation and
costs of a key card system.
Nominating committee
chairman Les Riley reported
that the following have in-
dicated to the committee
that they will stand as of-
ficers of the Branch for 1982-,

president, Clarence Hoy as
treasurer and Carolyn

May 4 when nominations and

The Ways and Means com-
mittee reported that special
entertainment will be held in
the Jubilee Room featuring
Anita Scott of "Pig and
Whistle" fame. ,Tickets are
available at the Branch.
The Legion Distridt C con-
vention will •be held • at the
Elora Branch on April 17 and
18. Six representatives from
Branch 109 have indicated
that they will be attending
this convention.
