The Community Centre at Hohnesville was filled to capacity Saturday evening with everyone giving their good wishes to Gladys and Jack Van Egmond on their' 25th wedding anniversary. From the Enterprising Seniors of Goderich Twp. attending the Zone Rally in Zurich last week were: president Everett Mcllwain; vice president, Jack Smith and Marion Smith; secretary, Irene Cudmore; treasurer, Fran Powell; and 2nd vice-president, John Deeves. At this rally, John Deeves was made treasurer of Zone 8; U.S.C.O. The Goderich Twp. Women's Institute will be holding their 10th birthday party April 22nd at 2 p.m. in the Community Centre, Holmesville. • Church service The Annual Easter Sunrise Service was held on the Holmesville Hill last Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m. when Mrs. Barb Norman welcomed approximately 60 persons, and Kevin Martin readthe call to worship. Three readings were read by Sunday School members: Greg Lobb, Shannon Preszcator, Julia Martin, Jim Crawford, Stephanie Bush, Michael Bush, Gregory Mayhew, Sherri Preszcator, Carrie Watson, Julie Rutledge, Greg Crawford, David Gilders, Jennifer Tyndall and Shari Lobb. Grade 2 and under sang, Easter Gladness, and Shelley Crawford read the scripture while Steven Preszcator led in prayer. ,The senior girls Choir sang, "The Lilies Tell the : tory." The Easter Messag "A World Renewed" by Travis Bell. Rev. Bechtel asked the benediction. The worshipppers returned to the Church where the breakfast tables were beautifully decorated with daffodils and pussy willows. All enjoyed a delicious breakfast of bacon' and eggs, toast and jam - coffee, and juice for the juniors. +++ HOLMESVILLE NEWS Blanche De•ves1488-3383 Jackie Norman and Brenda Harris favored with a duet, "Sing Ye To The Lord," and Rev. Bechtel's message was: "The Hope of Immortality". Don Lobb and Bill Crawford received the offering. The service of Holy Communion was observed and the benediction closed the worship hour. Card party The last card party of the season sponsored by The Women's Institute was held April 8 in Goderich Township Community Centre with 8 tables in play. The high prizes went to Mrs. Erma Crich and Ernie Brown; low prizes to ,Mrs. Della . Slavin and Ralph Horn; lone hands, Frank Police report From April 5 to 11, Goderich police report one assault, four break-ins, one disturbance, six thefts, four incidents of wilful damage, one criminal code offence and two motor vehicle ac- cidents. Four arrests were made and six criminal charges, eight liquor charges and 13 Highway Traffic Act charges laid. Twenty-seven warnings were also issued. The congreation filled the Church for the Service of Holy Communion at 9:45 a.m. A beautiful azalea was placed in the sanctuary in loving memory of Orval Blake by his wife and family. Easter lilies, daffodils and pussy willows added to the beauty of the Easter Service. Rev. Bechtel talked to the children about the egg. It symbolizes the promise of life - Jesus rose from the dead, He gave us life. The minister congratulated the members of The Youth Fellowship Group who took part in the starvathon and raised more than $700 for mission work in Kenya. He said "They are a great lot to be with." Thompson; and nearest/ birthday, Mr. Alden Crich. The Enterprising Seniors will meet Thursday April 15 at 2 p.m. in the Community Centre in Holmesville. Livery project to get grant The Goderich Performing Arts Foundation has established a board of directors to pursue the funding and construction of the Livery project on South Street. The members of the board incllde; ,Dorothy Wallace, president; Phil McMillan, vice-president; Irene Bain, secretary; Fred Durst, treasurer; Cewan Egener, legal advisor; Iain Bain, executive director; Gary Davidson, events; Eileen Beauchemin, mem- bership; John Kuran, property; Fred Durst, finance and Craig Cass, fund raising. The group has a letter of com- mitment for a $50,000 grant from the capital support branch of the Ministry of Culture and Citizenship. Ministry funds The .Ministry of Transportation and Communication advised council of its share of funds in the connecting link program for 1982. The Ministtry will provide funds in the amount of $73,800 to cover the l'Iinistry's share of work on the Britannia Road -South Street storm sewer project. The Ministry would not provide funds for paving, curb and gutter work on Victoria Street from Elgin Avenue to Gloucester Terrace and the Ministry will not subsidize traffic lights at the corner of Bayfield Road and Bennett Street. Daylight saving time While daylight hours are slowly -:creeping into the evening these days, daylight savings time will not be in effect until Sunday, April25. COMMUNITY NI WS Legion Week Goderich town council agreed to declare the week of September 19 to 25 as Legion Week in Goderich. Members of Branch 1 109 have not finalized plans for the week but will hold an open house. Decoration Day will be held September 19 at Maitland Cemetery and a loan - burning ceremony and dance is scheduled for September 25. Documents Town documents, assessment rolls, council Minutes and bylaws will be microfilmed by Bluewater Micrographics in Sarnia. Council passed a motion calling for the documents to be sent to the Sarnia firm. Weather station Goderich town council accepted an offer from the Goderich Industrial Development Corporation Limited to purchase the weather station at the airport site for an amount of $7,500. The industrial development corporation provided funding for the construction of the building. O Easter Seal short of goal With only 15 days left, Goderich's Easter Seal appeal still nees $2,876 to reach its objective of $4,200. Despite this, campaign chairman Ralph Smith of the Goderich Lions Club, is still optimistic that this objective can be reached. "We are deeply grateful to all those whose generosity shows that they share our concern for the future of physically disabled children in this area," says Smith. "And we appeal now to those who may have overlooked or misplaced their pink donation return envelopes to send in their donations now."
