The Goderich Signal-Star, 1982-04-07, Page 3Folk, Fun anGames
is third show in s ries
The third play in the"Four
Great Shows for Children"
series sponsored by the
Goderich Recreational
Association will take place at
Victoria Public School on
Sunday, April 18 at 2:00 p.m.
The play titled "Folk, Fun
and Games" was chosen
with the intention of giving
the audience an opportunity
to participate. Most of the
activities are of a musical or
rhythmic nature involving a
tante-fable story and feature
playground and playparty
games for the audience to
participate in.
"Folk, Fun and Games"
features the husband and
wife team of Rick Avery and
Judy Greenhill, both ac-
complished performers in
their field. Much of their
work stems from the folk
revival of the 1960s with an
emphasis on love and folk
songs.
They teamed up in 1978
and have performed across
Canada at concerts, schools
libraries and clubs the
couple recently released
their first album, titled
"Harbour Grace, Songs of
Eastern Canada."
"Folk, Fun and Games"
should prove to be an in-
teresting performance for
both young and old.
The mad antics of Cam;,
Quartet bring classical msic alive
Whd' says classical music
is dull? Certainly. not kids
who have been introduced to
the classics accompanied by
the mad cap antics of the
Camerata Quartet. Area
youngsters will have' a
chancel() see for themselves
when the ,group appears at
the Blyth . Memorial Hall,
Saturday, April 10 at 2 p.m.
Camerata is one of the'
most popular ensembles in
the world of classical music
in. Canada. They have played
from coast to coast and ac-
companied Prune Minister
Trudeau to Mexico,
Taxpayers.
Venezuela and Cuba. But
while they have won the
praises of officiandos of
classical music in their adult
concerts, they have had their
audiences rolling in the
aisles when they've turned
their attention to children.
Camerata's philosophy is
simple: they believe that for
children to learn, to love
music, they must find it a
pleasurable experience. So
Brahms, Beethoven and
Schubert gets served up with
a touch of the Marx
Brothers.
The group encourages par-

trainable mentally retarded and developmentally
handicapped students 'were presented and will be for-
warded (along with the rest 'of the board's plans to be
heard April 5) to the Mihistry of Education for final
approval.
Mr. Eckert's plan suggests a joiht planning com-
mittee be set up with two representatives, most likely
staff members, from the three school, boards, that is,
the Perth Board of Education, Huron Board of
• Education and the Separate School Board.
With the implementation of special education in the
Education Act, separate school boards must : now:
educate their own trainable mentally retarded
students, something they could not do previously. The
board has three options available, it could purchase
services from either of the other two boards, ie. have
a trainable mentally retarded student under its
jurisdiction attend a school already setup by the
other two boards at a cost to the separate school
board, offer joint services with the other boards or set
up a class opscttool of its own. ,
The main .concern of the separate; school board in
setting up its own class or school is the large territory
it covers. All avenues are to be explored by the joint
committee.
Bicycles stolen
Goderich police report a quiet week from March 29
to April 4. There were seven thefts with bicycles
being the main object of these thefts. There were also
two cases of fraud, one criminal driving offence and
one incident of wilful damage., '
Police made two arrests, laid two criminal
charges, 13 liquor charges, 11 highway traffic act
charges and one other provincial statute charge.
They/investigated four minor motor vehicle accidents
and issued 10 warnings.

audience: Camerata, for in-
stance, asks children to sug-
gest words which describe
feelings such as "happy",
"sad" or "excited".
Camerata then plays a piece
which best illustrates these
varying moods.
The concert replaces one

Headlines misleading
in two hydro line stories
Perhaps it is a bit ironic
that the publication of last
week's edition of the Signal -
Star coincided with April',
Fool's day. But the headlines
which appeared on two
hydro stories on Page 2 of the
March 31 paper were,
without intent, misleading in
onecase and erroneous in
the other.
The headline over the
story concerning the
foodland-hydro . committee
brief submission to the
Consolidated Hearings
Board indicated the 'com-
mittee had no -route
° preference. Committee'
secretaary, Bill Jongejan,
said the head was
misleading and indicated the
• committee did not care.
The committee, in fact, is
proposing a modified version
of the M3 route as outlined by
hydro.
"People are misguided if
they think we have to choose.
one of . the routes," he said.
"Our - proposal has
credibility and Ontario
Hydro has not been able to
shoot it down."
Also, Huron County
Council backed hydro's
proposed Ml transmission
line and at its last meeting,
council reaffirmed . its
position and preference for
MI. The headline on the
story suggested council
backed the M5 •transmission
line route.
The Signal -Star regrets the
error • and any in-
convenience.
