(Photo by Joanne Buchanan) Club holds `Fun Night' A 'Fun Night' was held when the Goderich Garden Aub met in the music room of Robertson Memorial Public School on November 18 at 8 p.m. After a brief business session, President Frances Worsell turned the meeting over to the program com- mittee under the capable direction of Bea Sparring and Irene Todd. As this was to be the last meeting before Christmas, the 'Fun Night' took on a Christmas theme. A film entitled 'Christmas in Germany', showed this event through the eyes of a young girl who learned that the true meaning of Christmas is depicted in the spirit of giving. Scenes which showed craftsmen at work on Christmas toys and decorations were very in- teresting. 1 In addition to the showing of the film, the program consisted of games testing the wits and knowledge of members. Winners were rewarded with Christmas wrapped prizes. - And in keeping with the Christmas spirit of the meeting, a special dessert lunch was prepared and served by the lunch com- mittee. In thebusiness session, Mrs. Worsell informed members of a newsletter from Mrs. M. Bray, Director of District 8, concerning the annual reports due and coming events of interest. The 1982 District 8 meeting will be held in Markdale in April and the provincial convention will take place in Guelph in June. The next meeting of the Goderich Garden Club will be the annual meeting which will be held on the third Wednesday of January 1982. Annual reports will be presented at this time and the new executive will also be installed. New postal rates take effect January 1 It might be wise to take care of two birds with one stone and mail both this and next year's Christmas cards before the start of the new year because, as of Jan. 1, new rates for first, third and fourth class mail take effect, which will double the cost of sending Christmas greetings through the mail. The new rates for second class mail will take effect next April. The cost of sending a seal- ed Christmas card (third class) will remain at 15 cents until the new year when it will rise to 30 cents. That's what it will cost to send a card next Christmas. Christmas cards bound for Canada and the United States must be sealed. The following are the deadlines for letters (including sealed Christmas cards) and parcels bound for destinations overseas. Letters and cards: Nov. 28 - Haiti and Neth., Antilles, Cuba; Dec. 5 - Europe, Argentina and Paraguay, Central and South America (excluding Cuba) and West Indies; Africa, Asia, Oceania (including Australia and New Zealand); Dec. 12 - Great Britain and N.
