Martha cleans out garage -
Martha Rathburn
Today I am feeling LOUSY
- but I have been known to
pull out of it without losing
my sense of humor.
Saturday a couple of
strong young people came in
to help with an impossible
job - the cleaning up - or out -
Round Dint._.... il' About
with Marththh rri
of the garage. What a mess!
But that's what happens
when you keep putting things
in - and taking nothing out!
So 1 end up with a jim dan-
dy cold ,and sinus infection
from all that dust - and you
have a good idea what
"LOUSY" means.
Anyway, I found a lot of
things I hadn't seen for
many years - they brought
back ideas that I had had
back then - sounded good at
the time - but as the years
fly, so do your plans.
Somehow, I just can't throw
them away because I
havenit the time or strength
to carry them out. So, I must
take a different tack into the
wind and see what happens. •
Christmas is the main
theme now and I hope some
of you have been having fun
preparing floats for the
parade.
Christmas belongs to the
children and we should try to
bring ourselves back into
line with what could - be
known an "old fashioned
Chrism s".
Television, with its
screaming commercials,
has turned the whole holiday
into a rat race of buy, buy,
buy• f and I want! The
children can't understand
why they can't have all these
things - what is MONEY? -
only a word to them. Is it too
gets a cold
late, this year, to try to make
them understand what it
SHOULD be? The magic of
the little fat, jolly elf coming
down the chimney is hard to
create. The kids know too
much.
We were the gullible ones -
and that is why we have nice
memories of the Yuletide.
Those were the days when
we worried about making or
doing something special as
OUR gifts to others - and not
expeeting piles of gifts in
return. If we could only get
the greed - yes, GREED, out
of the Christmas season and
get back to the real spirit of
giving, we would be doing
some good for ourselves and
our kids.
This is why I think more
fun should go into the parade
and into thoughts of helping
those who would really ap-
preciate our gifts.
When you look back at the
broken and damaged things
over the year that cost you a
Farmers busy with corn harvest
We have had a few weeks
of wonderful fall weather
and the farmers in Colborne
Township have been very
busy with the corn harvest.
Now many of them are
plowing and getting ready
for winter. As there are still
some fields of corn standing,
it is hoped we will have
another week or so of war-
mer weather for this harvest
before wet, wintry weather
sets in.

face another buying spree?
It's our fault they have this'
careless - who cares - at-

much at .one time. The gift
has no meaning, they don't

Perhaps it is just ME who
