GODERICH SIGNAL STAR, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1981—PAGE 7
Horses perf rm well
at racing events
Dr. and Mrs. Desmond
Leeper of Goderich took
their two horses Bristol
Cream and Pizazz to an
exciting event sponsored by
the Trollope Hunt of London
this past Sunday.
Pizazz, a 12 -year-old
thoroughbred mare ridden
by Desmond Leeper took
second place in the Inter-
mediate cross-country trials
out of a field of nine horses.
This was the highest level
of cross-country competition
at the event and was com-
posed of a 21/2 mile gallop
through fields, a stream, and
forest. There were 20 jumps
ranging from water jumps,
Helsinki, coffin, drop fence,
coop, cordwood, oxers, stone
walls and special 'knock-
down jump' designed to be
easily knocked. down unless
it is jumped correctly.
Pizazz managed a
faultless round in spite of the
muddy footing and was only
six seconds behind the first
place horse. Pizazz also
,placed fifth in the R.H.
Trollope Memorial
Challenge Point -to -Point
Steeplechase.
Of the 12 starters, seven
horses failed to complete this
gruelling race.
Bristol Cream was entered
in a 3/4 mile cross-country
flat races, This young horse
has always loved to run and
the Leepers thought it would
be a nice break frau the
Dressage ring for him.
Of the field of nine horses
some had even raced on the
track. Due to a poor start,
Bristol was dead last at the
beginning of the race.
Marlene Leeper, who was
riding Bristol, decided that
she would let Bristol "do his
own thing" and leaned
forward and told her horse to
"go for it."
Bristol passed every horse
in what became an exciting
race, putting his heart and
soul into getting to the front.
He won the race and as a
result received the red
ribbon, $100 first prize
money, silver fox -head
goblet and a beautiful silver
tray.
Bristol paid $3.30 for every
$1 wagered on him but next
year he probably won't be
such a dark horse since he
has now established a

Marlene said that the only
problem she had with Bristol
was that once he passed the
horse at the head oof thebpack,
he was finished his personal
rate and she had to urge him
to run to the finish line.
She will enter him next
