Clifford, 134 Widder St. on. Thursday, September 24. The, President, Mrs. R. Buchanan, presided and welcomed all who then en- joyed the delicious pot -luck casserole or salad luncheon. After the' hearty meal the members and guests 'assembled for the meeting which commenced with the opening exercises and the President conducting the meeting. Due to the absence of the Secretary Mrs. A. Stoll and assistant secretary Mrs. Dorothy Feagan, Mrs. G. Kaitting acted as secretary... The minutes of the July meeting were read and approved and correspon- dence wasgiven attention as follows. The 30th Huron County Women's Institute Rally will be held in Belgrave Monday, October 5th with registration 9:30 a.m. Itis expected a car load of ladies will attend. Thanks was extended from JoanVan den Broeck for catering for the graduation banquet for Grade 8 students of Colborne Central School and an in- vitation was received from Blyth Women's Institute to attend their meeting November 5 at 8:00 p.m. in the Blyth Memorial Hall with guest peaker District President of Huron West, Mrs. Sybil Chandler. As the October meeting will be Oct. 22 this matter will be at- tended to at that meeting. A. letter was received" from Alexandra Marine and General Hospital Board re Intensive Care Area Funding and this matter received our prompt attention and a donation will be given to this appeal. A letter and in- formation sheet was received from Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Huron County, regarding workshops for the "Quilting" project, with information as to time and place of the training schools. One member was interested in attending the workshop Colborne corner Gertrude Kaitting, correspondent 524-W78 and if anyone else, either a member of the Institute or not, would like to take this course please contact Mrs. R. Buchanan, 524-4308. The October meeting will be an evening meeting, Thursday, October 22nd, 7:30 p.m. with guest speaker Earl Reaburn, with members of Goderich Township and Dungannon Institutes as our guests. Guest speaker for the meeting was Dianne Old- field, Dairy Princess for 1980-81 who received special thanks for accepting our invitation to speak from Mrs. R. Burchanan, who an- nounced her latest achievement was being chosen "Queen of the Furrow". Mrs. Cora Sher- wood introduced Dianne Oldfield and in doing so read an interesting article regarding the "Droughts of the 30's" remembered by a farmer in Weyburn, Sask. Miss Oldfield chose as her subject "Cheese" acquainting members with this product made in Ontario that has gained wide -spread popularity and publicity and had samples of various cheeses for members. Mrs. R. Buchanan thanked the speaker and presented her with a gift. The Motto "If it wasn't for agriculture, what would the city man do" was given by Mrs. Ella Bogie and was exceptionally in- teresting ending with the poem "Baking Bread". The Roll Call for the meeting "Time and labour saving inventions" brought forward many answers from all such as the various electrical appliances to power lawn mowers and to Annual rally for West Region held BY MARIE PARK Mrs. Mary Bere spent the weekend in London with John Bere and family and at- tended some . of Kavalkade '81 sponsored by London Folk Arts Multicultural Council. Mrs. Olive Blake was able to spend Saturday at her home with daughter, Lynda and Grant Sowerby of Toron- to. Mrs. Jessie Carpenter of St. Catharines, and Tom Park and Michelle. Good of Goderich spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Park, Todd and Brad. Congratulations to Mr, and Mrs: Eugene Johnston who were married on Saturday, September 12. They are residing in Port Albert. Eugene operates the Johnstone & Sons gravel pit on the fourth of Ashfield. DUNGANNON UCW The Dungannon UCW held their September meeting on the evening of September 22 at the home of Mrs. Dorothy Pentland 'who also played the organ for the hymns. The devotional was taken by Mrs. Elsie Irvin and Mrs. Donna Alton and featured articles from recent Observer magazines, "The Unquenchable Human Spirit" and "Rural Ministry". A question period was held after these thought- provoking readings. Mrs. Nora Saunders read a poem, Marathon of Hope, in honour of Terry Fox. Mrs. Bessie McNee chaired the business part of the meeting. Sixteen ladies answered roll call by telling their favourite hobby. Minutes were read and adopted, correspondence was read and the treasurer's report was given. The 20th Annual Rally of the West Huron Region is be - Mg held on Thursday at Don- nybrook. Dungannon UCW is to bring the invitation for 1982. It was decided to buy 50 church calendars. Mrs. Bessie McNee brought to the attention of the ladies that there is a box of quilt material to be sewed up this winter. The need for a fence around the church flowerbeds was mentioned and Mrs. Amy Wiggins of- fered some fencing which was gratefully accepted. Lunch was served by Mrs. Marj Pentland and Mrs. Donna Young. The meeting closed with The Queen. 4-H GROUP The 4-H group heldtheir meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at the home of Linda Bisset. The meeting opened with the 4-H Pledge and the President Cathy Schoemaker, called the roll call "In an egg carton are eggs packed with the large end or the small end up?" The answer was the' large end. The leaders talked about the air cell in the egg and the egg white and the egg yolks and whites_ and parts of the egg. The homework for the group was to check in stores for the price per carton on various sizes of eggs and ask several people what they do with.left over yokes and whites and over yolks and whites and for breakfast, using the following recipe - Ingredients, 3 eggs, 15 ml. milk, 2 ml. cinnamon, 1 ml. salt, 4 slices white, whole wheat or french bread and butter. Method - combine eggs, milk, cinnamon and salt in a flat baking dish or pie plate and beat until well blended. Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Elliott, Menesetung Park, returned home this week -from a three- week holiday . and visited first with their daughter Mrs. and Mr. Barry Schwarz of Long Island, for a week and then attended with their daughter and her husband, the wedding of their gran- dson, Elliott Schwarz and Phyllis Amato, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Amato in Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Orlando, Florida. The bride and groom are both employed at Disney World,. Mr. and Mrs. Elliott had a pleasant holiday and weather was perfect but are glad to return home. Mr. and Mrs. Terence Hunter's grandson Mr. and Mrs. Andy Thompson and son Jeffery of Oakville visited with them over the weekend with Mrs. Thom- pson and son Jeffrey remaining for a few days.
