CGIT trains girls 12 to 17
years old for, Christian
living. It is a 66 -year-old
organization sponsored by
the the Baptist Federation of
Canada, the United Church,
the Presbyterian Church and
the Disciples of Christ. The
junior equivalent is the
Explorers group forgirls9 to
11 years.old.
The' senior girls chosen to
go to leadership develop-
ment camp are 'the cream of
the erop'. They must
promise to go back to OGIT
for at least one year or to
serve as a junior counsellor
in an Explorers group. They
can attend camp only since.
"A very high percentage of
them will be the CGIT
leaders of tomorrow," says
Shirley Price of Stouffville,
vice-president of the Ontario
camp committee and one of
five leaders attending the
Camp Menesetung training
sessions.
At training camp, the girls
learn more about the CGIT
program including bible
study, mission study, vesper
services, service projects
and long and short term
projects. They learn
workshop methods, how to
teach games ' and lead
singing, how to make slides,
hiking techniques and how to
run a business meeting.
They also learn about
leadership qualities and
effective communication
skills. The camp provides an
experience in personal
growth as well.
At Menesetung, the girls
were divided into groups.
Each ' group gave a
presentation, putting into
use what they had learned."
Evaluation followed. The
girls also saw a film and
heard a` talk on the disabled.
And they enjoyed sports,
swimming and singing. They
wound up their program with
a colorful banquet and
vesper service last Thursday
