Slowpitchsecond season starting
The 1981 Goderith Men's
Slowpitch League regular
schedule has come to an end -
For some, it marks a time to
Start re -thinking strategies
and plans for next April, and
for others it's the beginning
of the second season.
m C division this week, the
Cobras` defeated Champco
but lost a close one to
Tickers. While those games
had no effect on standings,
two other, games did.
Bluewater Centre clinched a
third place finish with a close
17-16 victory over Chanipeo.
Renegades, in a fourth
place battle with Selinger
Wood, walked away with a
21-10 victory over Selinger to
settle,the issue. First round
playoff action will see
Cobras against Renegades
and Tickers . against
Bluewater. Both are best two
out of three series.
Looking back we see that
both Bluewater and Selinger
were new teams to our
league this year. Both are to
be commended for their
play. While Bluewater has
made the playoffs, Selinger
can take great satisfaction in
their inspiring victory over
Signal -Star earlier this year.
('„ 1.ranot really a

they are due for, a divisional
change with some out-

year.
For a change, B division

win over Local1863, clinched
first place with the help of an
Smiths. .. victory _ over
Optimists. -
Although,tied in points for
second, the Oldtimers with a
15-9 win and an 9-8 loss to
Optiniists will take second
place based on a 23-18 run
advantage. The ., Oldtimers
will tl>iis have home field
advantage when their best of
three series against the
Optimists begins Tuesday
night.
The Wheelsmen, waiting
patiently for the outcome of
the Smiths -Optimist game
will now have to wait until
next year as 'Smiths came
away with a 9-7 win. Smiths
will now advance to a best of
three series with Carlow
beginning Tuesday.
Any doubts concerning the
Smith-Wheelsmen relative
finishes were put to rest last
weekend in a tournament
where Smiths came out on
top. To put rumours to rest,
this writer has nothing
against the Wheelsmen.
