Have a great weekend! Witnesses meet in London peak attendance of 5,784 was reached Sunday for the final session of the "Kingdom Loyalty" District Convention of Jehovah's Witnesses at Western Fair Grounds in London. Grant Suiten of New York spoke on the question: " `The Signs of the Times' •What Do They Mean to You?" Suiter said the winds of change are blowing and the dark clouds signal a great storm. on the horizon. That storm, he said, is Armaged- don. In his prepared remarks, Suiter stressed Armageddon will not be a final conflict between nations but, rather, Divine intervention in human affairs in a war con- ducted by God through his Son, Jesus Christ. Commenting on this crucial generation, Suiter said there has been no letup in trouble between nations since World War I in 1914. "This is so," he said, "in spite of religious leaders who have backed such schemes as the defunct League of Na- tions and the present United Nations, and who contend that what we need now is the right men in political office to insure a return to God for his blessing." Suiter added there is evidence that the quality of life on earth is deteriorating, that conditions go from bad to worse, that fear and suspi- cion, crime and violence, have become the order of the day in these "closing years" of the twentieth century. Pessimism? Stressing he wasnot speaking "pessimistically," Sutter quoted Aurelio Pec- cei, president of the Club of Rome, who said: "It is my perception that the world is in a worse shape now than it was ten years ago - and get- ting etting worse. Today the world begins more and mote to resemble a ricocheting bullet as it careens from disaster to disaster. We are now heading into an even more complex and difficult decade." Sutter also quoted Thomas J. Watson, former American Ambassador to the Soviet Union, who said: "I perceive the world to be more dangerous than it has ever been in its history." "Are there not grounds for such lack of optimism among prominent. leaders. -Q thought in the world?" Sutter asked. "The tremetw does stock;..ling• of war irn plements now going on among the nations of the earth is unparalleled in history. This alone is cause for alarm. Costs for such an arms race have added to the inflationary spiral threaten- ing national economics and pushing up prices for all kinds of goods and ser- vices." Sutter said the wisdom of wise men in politics and in- dustry has perished. He said that "there is no brilliant statesman with persuasive solution to the world's troubles or even to one na- tions's problems." Remedy Suiter added that despite warning and the colossal failure of human govern- ments niter centuries of time, imperfect, puny men are pushing ahead arrogant- ly with their schemes. "But they will not do so for very much longer," he warn- ed. "Swiftly, ' the radical change in the world scene will . now be upon us," he said, "at a time when the majority do not expect it, for they have not paid attention to the Bible's warning." Suiter concluded by warn- ing against ° placing con- fidence in political govern- ment or economic security for a secure future. "Surely we are privileged to be standing here today at this vantage point of time," he said. "We now see ah around us the `signs' that point to an imminent and sweeping change. We can understand that Jehovah God has refrained from in- terfering with rule of the na- tions by selfish men and depraved demons for a reasonable time in order to show their utter inability to bring about peace and pro- sperity for all." .a If you're NEW IN TOWN 'and don't know which way to turn, call the eicsiiirm„ hostess at 524-7165 You'll be glad you did Oj I 1 Special Offer! click a roll of 35 mm colour negative film, and we'll print 5" s 7" prints for the same price as regular she 3'/," prints.
