ty well-acquainted with our
nice town over the last few
years. - and were happy to
hear more about it.- you
know how Igoon•—and on!
Have you missed the ball
games on T.V. or have you
been followiifg the local ball
players? We had good inten- ,
tions but like so many others
just sat and watched T.V. -
not really enjoying it.
Luckily one evening a
friend phoned to, tell us the
time and place of one of the
girl's games - so away we go
to watch it. Years ago we
were very, faithful attending
the local games but
somehowwe have slipped '
out of the habit, so we.really
apreciated the reminder.
. After a short delay as one
of the players was held up,.
the game got underway with
the little bat -girl filling in: I,.
could just FEEL the thrill
that little girl was experienc-
ing,- remembering how tiny I
was when I started playing
and hots•I feared I would not
be called because of my size ! '
The good old days! Anyway,
the little one picked up a
glove and was assigned to
right field.
I had never used or owned
a glove _ in THOSE days
seems like the catcher, was
the only one to have a mitt.
The SOFTBALL wasn't soft,
it was HARD! . but you I
toughened to it. I have felt I
the kids were lucky, noW, to
have such nice safety equip-
ment.
To get back to the game. • it
was quite some time before a
fly went out to right field but
the little one was right under
it even though it knocked her
on her duff - she got a rous-
ing cheer from the fans and
another later when, -up to
bat, the pitcher walked her.
The fans were really excited
by the turn of events'and en-
joyed feeling IN with the lit-
tle girl and cheered the team
to victory with their en-
thusiasm:
So. go watch the locals.
