Gord's clinches tourney spot with win
Gord's Sports clinched a
*berth in the Labour Day
tournament by defeating
Canada Company 4-3 in, an
exciting game Monday
night.
Canada Company opened
the scoring. m the first inning,
when Tom O'Brien stole
home on a• wild pitch, and
Brian Bowman doubled
home Mike Donnelly.
Gord's got one back in the
fourth when Jon Ginn and
Dave Scholl hit doubles.
They went ahead 4-2 in the
fifth with two runs coming
from a, home CUD by Dennis
Williamson
Canada Company: closed
the gap to 4-3 in the sixth but
could get no closer: Des
Courtney' allowed five hits
for the winners while Dean
Doherty took the loss. Rob
McDonald had two hits in a
losing ef for for C.C.

Lakeport Steel put an end
to Canada Company's hopes
for a tournament bet by
beating them 7-2.
Lakeport scored three
third inning runs and two
fourth inning counters to
pave the way. Pitcher Brian
McKenzie limited C.0 to just
five hits in recording the win.
Ron Miller had three hits for
Lakeport while Bruce
Bowman, Frank Hagan and
tarry McCabehad two each.
11eGees thrash Fishers
' The McGee Pontiacs used
a 14 -hit attack to beat Fisher
Builders 10-3 Monday night. •
They opened 'the game
with five runs a nd scored two
in the third. and three in the
fourth. teading the MCGee
onslaught was Doug Spitzig
who had three hts. while the
devestating leadoff duo of
Ron Klages and Paul Kelly
as well as Mike Frayne and
Paul Bartliff added two.

Fishers. Klages' two hits put
a stranglehold on the batting
crown which, would be his
second in a row. N.ot bad for

Hotel Bedford played

team 4-0 Sunday night. Rob
Plunkett pitched a superb
ball game in allowing

after Brian Sowerby singled -
to lead off the inning. Ron
Hunking walked with 4wo
out, and then Jim Crawford
scored Sowerby when his
smash was mishandled by
theFisher defence.

A section. of Goderich will
be closed to traffic. this
Sunday when professional
and arriatuer cyclists Will be
racing for money and
trophies.
Last year, the event was
part of Sportsfest activities;
but this year the Goderich
Recreation. Department. is
sponsoring it on its own.
There be nine different
races, beginning Sunday
morning at 11 a.m. and
continuing until about 5 p.m.
The moonier races will be
held first, comprised of four
races. Youths 8-9 yOars old
will start at 11 a.m. aidrace
two kilometers, 10-11 year-
olds will .then race four
kilometers at 11:10 a.m.,
followed by the 12-13 year old
class at 11:25, also racing
Will play Wingham again
Lour km, The 14 and over
•
class will do six km,
beginning. .at '11:45. The
racing for trophies,
The pro classes are
separated into four classes,
cadets, juniors and ladies;
senior C and veterans. and
senior A and B. These races
range from 24 km. to 70 km.
There will $1,000 in prizes
among thesec lasses.
The races start and finish
at the Town Hall on West
Street. Bikers take off down
West Street, turn left onto
Wellington, turn left onto
Elgin Ave, turn left onto
South. go around the Square
and back down to the Town
Hall totalling two km for the
lap. During the races, this
Section of town will be closed
to traffic.
Intermediates ousted from playoffs
In Intermediate fastball
action last week, the
Goderich ball 'team Mat a
pair of games, to the
Wingham B. P.s to be
eliminated from WOAA,
playoffs.'
On Tuesday, Goderich, the
defending WOAA champs,.
got off to a fast start with a 5-
0 lead but the Wingham team
kept chipping away to send
the game into extra iimings.
A rally in the bottom of the
tenth inning fell short as
Wingham won 9-8.
Steve Haggitt and Mark
Frayne had home runs and
Bob Hnatyk had three hits
for Goderich but it was Bill
Brown's two -run homer for
Wingham in the tenth that
notched the win:
On Friday, tioderich again
jumped into the, lead with
three quick runs but
Wingham came back again,
this time winning 7-3.
Joe Kocanie and Bob
Hnatyk had, two hits apiece
and Glen Falkiner's two -run
triple led the Goderich at-
tack.
Goderich now must face
this same Wingham team in
PASA playoffs. The first
game is in Wingham this
Thursday and the second
back in Goderich on Tuesday
at9p.m.
