Over 50 cars, floats, bands and marching groups participated in the parade which attracted thousands of people to the town streets. Other winning entries included Tom Penhale's four -horse hitch, and Bill Leemin' g's horse-drawn butcher wagon in the Horse -Drawn Vehicle class; Bill Bogie's Colborne Twp. Float in the Folinders' Day category; and E.D. Mcilwain with his steam engine in the Antique Vehicle category. Other winners were the Blue Water Shrine Club, Union Gas and Emerson Anderson of HensalL (Jason Ainslie photo) • Lots, ob fun featured at Point Farms Park There is lots of fun this. weekend at Point Farms Provincial Park for area residents, park campers and visitors. - • A variety of good reading • is available from the Huron County Bookmobile from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on - __-Thursday.-Craftiand games• for children begin at 4. p.m. at the beach volleyball net. A lively hour. of puppetry and story -telling at the barn will start at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome! • On Friday,. July, 10, meet outside the barn at 811.M. for a campfire cooking• • demonstration. You may even get a sample of some great recipes! Bring your singing voices so that you can join in for a rousing round of rollicking reper-, toire. Saturday starts off with the "KIDS ON THE BLOCK" troupe performing at 2:30 p.m. at Colborne •Comfort Station, organized in conjunction with the Inter- national Year of Disabled Persons. Come meet These charismaticjikeable, child - sized puppets! Meet at the permit office at 4:15 p.m. to visit Bob McNeil and his family at his neighboring dairy farm for a unique -bur of his operations. At 8 p.m., visit the barn for a fun film :festival with lots of cartoons for everyone. Kids On The Block and • PuppetniongersPowell will each appear at Victoria School: the first on Friday at 10 a..ni., and the second next Wednesday, July 15,» at 2 p.m. • Kids On The Block is a troupe from Washington, D.C. with seven puppets, and • each pippet has a different disability. The show, in keeping with the Inter- national Year of the Han- dicapped theme, will at- tempt to dispell old myths about various mental and physical handicaps: one puppet is blind, another has cerebral paLsy, another is deaf, and so on. The show consists of four dialogues, each of which highlights a particular disabled "Kid".Each dialogue is followd by a short question period in which questions are invited from the aixlience. For in- stance, Renaldo, the sightless child, is often asked, "If you are"blind, how then do ynu eat?" The. Kids On The Block work,be.st with a maximum audience size of 69 children, and the presentation, along with the workshop that follows, require about one and a quarter hours of time. Admission price nn Friday morning is 50 cents. The Pup- petmongersPo well is a Canadian puppet group which has been getting rave reviews, throughout the country. Created by the brother and sister team of Ann and David Powell in 1973, this troupe has per- formed for festivals in Canada, U.S.A., Great Britain, France, Belgium, Germany, Holland and Iran. Puppetmongers Powell offer a repertoire of programs to suit adult or Car WHERE•..... *ea 'ere child audiences. Their shows. are based on sources as diverse as folklore, history, and circus, with puppet styles changing frau play to play, and mechanical figures, 'traditional poppets, dolls or building Nicks playing the lead roles in their productions. Admission for this show on July 15ot 2 p.m. is 50 cents.
