and handstitching caps,
aprons, shawls and dresses.
To be worn by local mer-
chants and • parade. par-
ticipants, the handmade
articles were made by the
ladies who finally completed
them after meeting several
times a week since early
January.
They also dressed .more
than eight dolls in traditional
Dutch costumes td sell at the
celebration. As well, Mrs.
Frank Van Altena, Edith
Burgess and Mrs. de Groot
offered their support and
donated some very special
dolls, ,outfitted in lace and
colorful Dutch dress, for
Klompen Feest draws.
No Dutch styled festival
would be complete without
windmills and Ralph De
Weerd of Hullett Township,
his wife Anne, his younger
brother John, Pete Bos, Bert
Vanderburgh and Burt Van
Maar along with a volunteer
painting crew, made some 22
windmills which . are
whirling in the breeze along
Clinton's main'street.
Mr. De Weerd kept h►ss
street decorating plans a'
well hidden secret for
sometime, but the • an-
ticipation paid off and Mr.
"De Weerd was right when he
told committee members,
"Wait and see, you'll like it."
To promote Klompen
Feest, {'achy Leppington, a
17 -year-old from Bayfield
designed the festival's logo.
Cathy is a Grade 12 student
at Central Huron Secondary,
School and hopes to study
fine arts after completing
grade 13 studies. She will be
able to include the Klompen
Feest logo which is .seen all
round town, on posters;
letterheads, buttons, tickets
and t -shirts. in her future
portfolio.
With marching bands,
(ktoberfest styled music,
street dancing, Dutch sweet
treats and lots of good food to
eat, handcrafted articles. of
every description to buy,
people to meet and a great
variety of things to do,
Klompen Feest is guaran-•
teed to be exciting ex-
travaganza of festivities.
Be sure to join Clinton on
