There have been many
advances in labor-saving
machinery in this section
during the past few years -but
one of the most profitable
and worthy advances was
made this week when
Messrs. Habel and Rum-
mell, builders and con-
tractors, purchased through
W.S. Knight one of Goold,
Shapley and Muir's famous
and reliable No. 2 concrete
mixers. It is run by a 31/2
horsepower gasoline engine
and will perfectly mix and
turn out 225 cubic yards a
day.
James Reynolds has
purchased a new cushion -
tire buggy from a London
firm.
The other day, the tug Two
Macs picked up about a
thousand feet of hemlock and
and flutist Gary Peters.
On Monday, May 4, the
Laketown Band competed in
the Stratford Kiwanis Music
Festival in the classification
for . community bands from
municipalities of 8.000 or less
and received first place
marks of 90 and a $50 cash
prize.
The forthcoming summer
season promises to be a busy
one for the band personnel.
In addition to the usual
number of area parades, the
Laketown Band is engaged
back
to play concerts in Bay City,
Michigan; Niagara Falls,
Ontario; Queenston Heights
and Seatorth, as well as the
usual two in Goderich's Har-
bour Park.
The 35 member Laketown
Band is looking forward to
its participation in the
"Sound of Goderich", par-
ticularly when it joins with
the Craigellen Singers, the
Teen Tones and the Har-
bouraires in Handel's stirr-
ing "Hallelujah Chorus".
landed it on the south pier.
The captain says the lake
was covered with it,
evidently from a shipwreck.
Over the objection of two
of its members, town council
voted Tuesday night to back
Intermediate "A" hockey,
within certain limits, for
another season. Tempers
flared as the fate of the team
was debated at a special
meeting this week.
• If certain.residents of.
Goderich do nt take action
to I clean up their unsightly
properties by this weekend;
the town will take action
against them, Mayor J.E.
Huckins warned at last
week's town council
meeting.

anniversary of the laying of
the cornerstone of the

be held on Sunday and

Dave McMillan of
Goderich received the
Dominion Command Award
from the Royal Canadian
Legion in recognition of 50.
years service with the
Legion. The presentation
was , made at an inter -club
gathering Thursday evening.
After two consecutive
nights of budget meetings,
the budget for 1976 in
Goderich was struck at
179.45 mills residential and
206.78 mills commercial for a
public school supporter. This_
represents an overall in-
crease of '14.20 per cent for
residential. and 13.91 per cent
