Mr. C.C. Lee has pur-
chased the hardware stock of
Mr. M.W. Nowell and an
archway will be cut between
the two stores for the con-
venience of patrons.
Yesterday Dr. Cl. T.
Campbell, P.O. inspector. for
the London division, visited
Goderich in answer to a
petition from the Board of
Trade for an enlargement
and improvement of the post
office arrangements here.
Mayor Tilt, Councillors
Young, Goldthorpe and
Sallows waited till 8:30 p.m.
on. Friday night for their
colleagues to show up, that
council business might
commence, and then gave up
in disgust and went home.
Dietrich and Son shipped a
car load of 'their celebrated
Star Flour to Montreal last
week.
Jno. McIntosh has raised
his store on West Street and
added a nice side entrance to
his dwelling.
Mr. Jonathan Miller of the
East Street livery, who has
been in poor health for some
time, has soldout his interest
in that business to Mr. L B.
Augustine who will conduct
the business with Mr.
Walker. .

With the official opening
scheduled for Tuesday, May
29, work on the new Huron
County Court House is being
rushed to completion.
County employees expect to
move into their new quarters
on May 17; 18 and 19.
Work started Monday on
the laying of the hard top on
the Goderich-Clinton high-
way. By Wednesday noon the
first layer had been put down
from Walnut Street to Laith-
waite's farm
Goderich won three of 13
awards at the ninth annual
Goderich Drama Festival
held at MacKay Hall last
week. One -act plays were
presented by little theatre
groups from Exeter, Galt,
Blyth, London, Chatham, St.
Thomas and Goderich..
Activity continues to be
brisk -at the local harborwith
grain cargoes arriving
almost every day, but the
threat of a seamen's strike
loonis in thebackground.
Farmers say spring
seeding operations. have
been set back a week or 10
days in many instaneea due
to the unusually heavy
rainfall of the past weekend.

ladies will vie for the honor
of Queen of the Prom to be
held this Friday at GDCI.

and Anne Melick.
The tax rate for school
purposes in the County of
Huron for 1976 will be in-
creased by 28.7 per cent as
the result of the budget
approved by board of
education trustees Wed-
nesday night.
Martha Rathburn was
honored by the Beta Sigma
Phi Sorority as a 25 year
member Sunday afternoon.
A subcommittee of the
• Goderich Recreation Board
submitted plans to the board
of education recently for use
of a parcel of land across
from GDCI on Bennett Street
as a sports field.
The Triple Jubilee Com-
mittee now, has a song in-
viting people to the.. town's
150th birthday party next
year. The song isto be used
as the focal point for an
extensive advertising
campaign to kick off next
fall.

109 and. the .Dutch Canadian
citiseons of the community
will celebrate the liberation
of the Netherlands by Allied
forces in the spring of 1945
this year on Friday, May 8.
This occasion will mark
the close association that
continues . even today
between Canadian ser-
vicemen, the Royal Cana-
dian Legion and the Dutch
Canadian citizenswho lived
in Holland during World War
1T.
The festivities will com-
.rate liberation
mence at 7:30 p.m. on May 8
with a brief ceremony at the
cenotaph in Court House '
park. At this time, represen-
tatives of both the Dutch
Canadian community and
Legion Branch 109 will place
wreaths in memoryof those
who died in the liberation of
Holland. Interested person-
nel are requested to assem-
ble at the cenotaph by 7:30
p.m.
Following the wreath lay-
ing ceremony, Legionnaires
and Dutch Canadians will
adjourn to the Jubilee Room
of Branch 109 for an evening
of entertainment, fellowship
and Dutch style lunch.
This celebration will be of
particular interest to those
Legionnaires who served in
Holland.during World War II
but all Legion members are
welcome. Legion members
may obtain tickets at the
Branch or by phoning 524-
8488. Dutch Canadian
citizens are requested to con-
tact 524-9488. If last year's
attendance is any indication
of the interest in this event,
you are requested to obtain
your tickets early.
