Toll -Free Number Change
By Don Pullen, Ag. Rep.
Last month we announced
new phone numbersfor the -
Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food office
in Clinton.
We have just been notified
of an important change.
Effective. immediately,
callers from any long
distance exchange in Huron
County can phone our office
using Zenith 7-3040. Our local
number is still 482-3428.
This decision was
necessary because of
problems encountered with
several phone numbers for
our office..:
Please make this change
in the blue pages of your
phone book.
`=We- sincerely regret the
confusion and inconvenience
this may cause. Hopefully,
this will be the last change in
our phone listing.
For those of you with a
London directory, the phone
number listed for the
Hullett Wildlife
Management Area under the
Ontario -Ministry of Natural
Resources, is the Clinton
Agricultural Office number.
The correct number is 482-
7011. We would appreciate it
if you would change that as
well.

Conservation affects
Ontario farmers in many
aspects of agricultural
production including soil -
the most basic resource of
all.
The Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food in-
formation trench ' recently
.produced a film, "Lands:
Our Last Resource," to.tell
the story of the need for soil
conservation. . '
The 20 -minute, 16 mm
color film was produced for a
general audience, although it
is aimed at primary
producers.
The film was written in co-
operation with Dr. Charles
Baldwin, Ridgetown College
of Agricultural Technology
soil •scientist, and James
Arnold, ministry
agricultural engineer. This
film looks at the causes of
soil erosion and shows
practical methods of
prevention.
The film points out that
although land erodes as part
of the natural process, over
°production and poor water
management can aggravate
and speed up the process.
The film demonstrates by
vivid examples how im-
proper tillage - plowing too
deeply and too fast - along
with growing the same crop
year after year, takes a toll
on our farmland.
"Land: Our Last
Resource" is available for
loan to schools and groups
free of charge from the Film
Library, Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food, Room
38, Johnston Hall, University
of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario
