March 2 in the Kiwanis Com-
munity Centre, Stratford at 7
p.m. ,

nurses, clerical staff,,
representatives of govern-
ment agencies (including
His Worship Mayor Blowes
and Alderman Dave Evans),
and friends. Because 1981 is
designated the Year of the
Disabled, special guests
from the handicapped com-
munity included Pat and
Ralph Watson of Brussels,
Benny Begini, 25 Kappelle
Circle, Stratford, Jack Gee,
25 Kappelle Circle, Strat-
ford, Henry Kunder, 234 Nile
St.,Stratford, Lillian
Odbert, Stratford Nursing
Home, Mornington Street,
Helen Skirten and her
father, 26 Oak St., Stratford,
and Jean Tulrford, 80 War-
wick Road,Stratford.
After -a 'beef dinner, His
Worship Mayor Blowes
brought greetings from the
city of Stratford,' expressed
appreciation 'for the work of
the VON, and extended his
good wishes for their con-
tinued beneficial service.
The guest speaker, Larry
Parket,- was-`uanbre' to lie
present bkccause''of illness.
However, Dave Evans
discussed the work of Strat-
ford's Ad Hoc Committee for
the Disabled. This 'coinmit-
te is headed by the
Reverend . Faist, and in-
cludes Betty MacMillan,
Dave Evans, several
equdlaction members, plus
- representatives -from -Spruce
Lodge and the Mobility Bus,

relating to curbing, width of
doors, height of bank
counters and telephones and
so on - all matters vital to the
disabled. One in ten persons
is disabled.
A film, "Different - Ap-
proaches", distributed by,
the Canadian -Human Rights
Commission of Ottawa, was
viewed. It was an amazing,
revealing, and impressive
film not only of the
predicaments of the han-
dicapped, but also of their
assets, skills, and depen-
dability.
President Ken Thrasher
presided over the business
meeting.. Reports from the
various officers were given
and, accepted.
The Report of the Nursing
Services for 1980 was given '
by nurse -in -charge Gwen
Berry. There were 22,858
visits to 1,240 individual pa-
tients representing an in-
crease of 1,316 visits and 87
individual patients over 1979.
Ninety-five percent of all
visits made by 9.5 full time
staff and 16 part time staff
were paid by government
sources; that is; Home Care
(H.C.), Ministry of Social
Services (HNSA.) and
Ministry of Veterans' Affairs

Chronic Home Care, coming
in the near future, were also
outlined. .
The financial report, com-'
mented on by Mr. Thrasher, -
showed a ten percent deficit
which should be overcome
by the .increased cost per
visit.
