Letters to the editor
Writer sends children to believing school
Dear Editor:
I am writing in reply to
Dave Cloet, who refers to
himself as a 'biologist' and
an 'educator', in a recent ar-
ticle about evolution versus
creation. He says, quoting
from his letter: "...the Bible.
was wrr n. ,, a :
.....aumhe ., of..,
years after Christ was on
earth...". Unless this is a
printing mistake -or he
meant something else, he il-
lustrates why I am taking
my children out of public
school and forking out to
send them to a ' Bible-
believipg Christian school.
Hopefully he was only, refer-
ring, to the Greek scriptures
that could hardly have been
written before Christ -
however, the parts that were
written concerning creation
were available. to the Jews
for many years before Christ
..aand.arestill used by them to-
day. I hardly think there is
any dispute over that,
afterall, Christ continually,
quoted from the ,Hebrew
scriptures in his ministry.
Also in answer toehis ques-
tion "why is it there are so
many versions of that great
book"? Ancient Hebrew was
one of the most, if not the
most precise and concise
languages, and any
translation is necessarily a
gallant attempt to try and
express as precisely and cor-
rectly as possible what the
original was saying. Two
other factors are that:
firstly, language is always
changing; afterall, we do not
use `ye' and `thou' in every-
day speech now; secondly,,
certain groups have tried°to
distort the Bible teachings to
fit their own doctrines.
Mr. Cloet also quotes in-
creased milk and egg pro-
duction as a direct result of
the evolutionary process?
No person, who knows
anything would argue
against natural selection due
to survival of the fittest, or
by experimentally inter-
breeding. However, we are
talking about simple
organisms becoming ex-
tremely complex organisms,
and new species being form-
ed. He also refers to new
viral and -bacterial diseases
as being evidence for evolu-
tion. A dog is always a dog
whether a poodle or a Great
Dane. A virus is a virus
whether it has adapted to a
new environment or not.
My last point is that evolu-
tion is a THEORY although
for all intents and purposes it
is treated as a fact. As far as
I -am aware, more and more
evidence, and therefore,
more and more reputable
scientists are beginning to
consider the Bible view of
creation, and a world-wide
catastrophic flood that left
us with our sedimentary
rocks and fossils.
Correct me if 1 am wrong,
1' do not claim to be an
`educator' or a 'biologist' but
hope that.I have an open
mind to evidence on these
matters, although as a Bible -
believing Christian I hold to
the six-day creation,
however ridiculous it might
seem to some. They forget
with ' Gqd 'all things are
possible, and that things of
God are foolishness in men's
eyes'.
Thank you Mr. Minaker
for again sparking off
another `controversy' and to
Mr. Cloet for his reply.
Yours,
Martin Foster,
Cambridge, Ont.
Evolution matter of belief until proof provided
Dear Editor:
In reply to Dave R. Cloet:
"Teacher responds to
charges". I commend him
for not forcing the theory of
evolution down his students'
throats. It is an unfortunate
fact that often evolution is
taught asif itwere a fact
with little if any doubt left as
to the truth of it.
Mr. Cloet states that "To
claim that evolution has not
occurred -, is , almost blin
ding." Yet a prominent
evolutionist and a leading
British biologist, Prof. L.
Harrison Matthews, in a

experience no Inner conflict
in this regard. I believe that
God in His infinite wisdom

Cart before the horse
Dear Editor:
It would seem that our
liberal government has,
once again, 'put the
proverbial cart before the
horse.
In the March 7 issue of the
London Free Press, I read
that "Legislation providing
loans to students in short-
term courses at community
colleges and other post-
secondary institutions
whizzed through the Com-
mons Friday." The article
also states that there is
"Increased enrolment in
'technical, community and
vocational institutions..."
However, on February 27
it was announced that the
Federal government is
decreasing its support of
social and educational
programmes. The purchase
of Canada Employment
Trainee Days has been
reduced 20 percent. As a
result, the community
colleges are forced to cut
back their services, leaving,
