The Goderich Signal-Star, 1981-03-04, Page 48.CHARMING FLOWER ,GIRLS almost "steal the show." This year the fashions emulate
big sister's, with pretty feminine touches, nosegays, velvet ribbons, tiers of ruffles, the
pinafore look, even grown-up hair -dos and brimmed hats.
Get along afterwards
• If you have somehow
got into a hassleand
you're upset with one an-
other ... get it out of your
system, if you can, during
the day, for it is extremely
hazardous to a good mar-
riage to go to bed mad.
Holding a grudge can
become a slow poison that
can actually destroy a
marriage, so don't overlook
even a seemingly .small
slight. Each' .day 'should
be a fresh start on new
joys together. Beware bot-
tled -up anger waiting to
explode.
"'Silence is golden.
Speech is .silver." Maybe.
But not when ill- feeling is
involved, especially with
a newly -married couple.

Display
your gifts
The custom of displaying
wedding gifts is optional but
is 'considered a courteous
gesture on the part of the
bride and 'groom. It should
not be considered an
ostentatious custom because
nearly everyone enjoys
.admiring a bride and
groom's presents.
Wedding gifts are usually
displayedin a. recreation
room or some other part of
the house which is not in-.
constant use. Rows of card
tables or anything else you
have available may be used
to display .the gifts. These
are usually covered with fine
white tablecloths but snowy
sheets can also serve the
purpose.
The most effective display
groups gifts, into categories
with silver on one table,.
glassware on another,
electrical appliances. on a
third, etc.
Single place settings • of
china, flat silver and crystal
are -usually displayed rather
- than complete sets.
Dupicates •are carefully
scattered so that it's not
obvious to anyone that you
received 12 sets» of salt and
pepper shakers. '
It is, not considered the
best of taste to display cards
with the gifts because
modest gifts are then made
to suffer in comparison with
extravagant ones.
Cheques and money gifts
should never be displayed
but a card reading "cheque
from Uncle John" may be
included among gifts.
When gifts are duplicated,
it is both permissible and
sensible for- the bride to
make exchanges so she can
have what she wants and
needs.
Writing. thank-yous
A not -to -be -neglected duty
of every bride is the prompt
acl nowledgement of the
lovely gifts she receives with
personalized thankyou notes.
Wedding consultants
suggest that mothers help
label and record the gifts as
soon as they arrive. This can
be done by attaching a
numbered label to the 'gift
and, writing • the
corresponding number in a
Wedding gift book. It can also
be done by taping the ac-
companying card to the gift,
Labelling. will avoid
confusionlater over which
gift is from whom.
