The Goderich Signal-Star, 1981-03-04, Page 47Hints for honeymoon
Traditionally, planning
and paying for the
honeymoon has been the
responsibility of the
bridegroom, and it still is
a sensible arrangement,
for the .bride and her
mother are totally im-
mersed in plans for the
wedding, the
bridegroom's mother
likely is worrying over
the logistics of the
rehearsal dinner, and the
fathers are lining up
funds to foot th"e bills.
That leaves only the
bridegroom free to look
at brochures, maps and
time tables.
`''Ad'mittediy, in this era
of working couples, bride
and groom often plan and
pay for theiL own wed-
ding and it's Iossible they
will pool funds for a trip,
too. But whatever the
decision on who pays and
who plans, the hints and
warnings are the same.
Honeymoons tend to
fall into, three main
categories:
(1) Youdrive on a
rambling tour, or to a
resort, or maybe to taste
big city life for a
weekend.
(2), You buy a
"package" trip and fly
away to exotic places or
cruise through tropic
seas. °
(3) Your new address is
miles away, so the cross
country trek, itself, is
your"honeymoon.
First, think of in-
surance
nsurance for - your
possessions. If you have
been under your parents'
roof, you were no doubt
covered by their
homeowners' policy. You
will be on your own now!
Find out what your car
insurance covers, in case
of theft of contents.
.Investigate renter's
insurance. It may also
cover your belongings
whileyou are travelling.
Ask about trip insurance,
which can give peace of
mind about cancellations.
lost luggage or accident.
And take a tip from a
couple who packed a
convertible with weddin
presents and left it
parked overnight. One
slash of the top allowed a
thief to unlock the door
and haul away the silver,
china and crystal, to say..
nothing of the canisters
and toaster. If you've
done any amount of car
travel, you know better
than to leave valuables
visible.
Now let's assume you
look forward to a
glamorous trip that will
be your life-long
memory. Visit a travel
agent and gather
brochures. Ask questions°
— and be .absolutely
honest about what you
can spend.
Make sure you know
what a trip package in-
cludes. Don't chance
being in a foreign country
(or even in the U.S.)
Iukuriating in a topnotch
hotel without enough
money to buy a meal.
(One couple, travelling in
the Orient, rejoiced at
seeing prime rib on a
menu after they had
sampled unfamiliar foods
for two weeks. They
rejoiced until the check
came! At the rate of
currency exchange, they
paid $187 for dinner!)

One point on which you
must confer, as man and
wife, is luggage. How
much can you take? If it's
to be a motor trip, the
bridegroom must spell
_this out, Acar trunk is not
expandable. A bride must
plan her wardrobe as
carefully as her mother
plans the reception. Any
sports equipment should
begiven a trial run, to see
just what the car can
accommodate.
And if you are buying a
trip from a travel agent,
make sure .you un-
derstand baggage
limitations, especially for
a charter trip or tour. The
luggage may be yours to
haul, at some points. You
must be able to manage
it.
One young couple, just"-

recommends carrying on
xr
a bag of essentials you'll
want right away "like
bathing suits. It takes
time for them to get your
luggage to your
stateroom."
"That goes for charters
and tour groups,"
another chimed in.
"There's always the
remote chance your
suitcases will NEVER
catch up with you."
An important note:
Make plans early and get
confirmed reservations.
It might seem funny

Depending on the style of
wedding and the time of day,
the bride may wear a short
or long dress or a suit, and
the groom, a trim well -
tailored suit or tuxedo.
Good taste .and manners,
along with the consideration
of others, will result in a
ceremony of remarriage
being a joy ous celebration of
new-found happiness.

Travel lightly
Certainly the "time of
your life" is no time to be
weighted down with lug-
gge. Of course, you want
to take what you will need,
according to the climate
you're heading into (your
travel advisor can assist
you here), but you will
want to rely on good-look-
ing blouses, skirts, slacks,
shirts, undergarments, etc.

you've got it made (al-
