Flyersistarted Intermediate

with a 4-3 win over Centralia
College. The teams will play
a best of five series.
The Flyers ended their
regular season with a 5-2 win
lessened the margin to one
with a goal,
The third period went
scoreless up until the 15:27
mark when CCAT tied up the
game. The Flyers lived up to
their nangpey managed

playoffs.
The winner of the
Goderich-CCAT round will
play the victors of the
Zurich -Centralia series in a
best of five. The final will be
a best of seven series.
The next game of the
Flyers' series will be tonight
(Wednesday) in Huron Park.
The third game will be here
on Monday night at 8:30. The
fourth game, if necessary
will be March 12 in Cen-
tralia, and the fifth here

Goaltender Percy Bedard
was the standout Monday
night as he kept out 44 CCAT
shots on net. The game was a
close one, with CCAT playing
catch-up and never taking a
lead
Goderich scored the only
goal of the first period at 9:46
from Bill Lewis. Rob
Standen and Len Kolkman
drew assists. CCAT tied it up
by 3:07 of the second period
only to have Goderich take
the lead again finally at
17:17. Phil Paquette got the
goal on a play set up by Ron
Corriveau a nd Standen.
The Flyers went ahead by
two less than a minute later
when Rick Rawson put one in
the net after Lewis set him
up. Before the end of the
second period, CCAT

Goderich a cushion going
into the third. Smith skated
end to end, beat out the
goalie and put in his fourth of
the game.
But four unanswered goals
in the last half of the last
period put the game into
overtime. Conservative
hockey was played until a
mental lapse by a tired
Goderich squad gave Mt.
Brydges the win. The final
score was 7-6.
The -local team bounced
back from the loss to defeat
Parkhill in the next game 11-
2. Darrell Graham won a
face off at centre ice and Jim
Mathers let a drive from
centre go to give Goderich
the early lead. Jffst six
seconds later, Parkhill
retaliated. They then
caPattlizC.0 on aGoderlch
penalty to go up by one after
a period of play.
A deflected Phil Wood
slapshot tied the game early
in the second period. Jeff
Feagan set Keith Hallum to
put Goderich in the lead.
Thirty seconds later,
Graham scored • en a pass
from Suitt Stoll.
John Peters Put a perfect
pass onto an open Jeff
'Feagan's stick who easily
skated in and put Goderich

While killing a penalty,
Graham found open ice and

up another goal to his credit.
Paul McCartney assisted on
the play. •
Andrew Telford set up the
final three goals of the game.
The first was by Graham,
then Feagan and finally
Hallum to gain the 11-2
victory and put Goderich in
position for second place.
Darrell Graham set up
Jeff Feagan halfway through
the first period to begin
Goderich on their way to an
eventual 11-1 victory over
Lucan.
Strong defence was the
dominant factor as the two
teams battled out end to end
action. Wood passed to Smith
with only two minutes left to
put Goderich up by two goals
after two periods.
. Shortly into the second
period, Jim Mathers scored
on a slap shat set up by
Graham and Stoll. Feagan
gave Smith the puck and he
easily put Goderich ahead by
four.
Smith and Peters assisted
Hall= to add to Goderich's
total. Then Graham weaved
around several players late
in the second period to get
his tenth' point of the tour-
nament.
Lucan attempted a threat
by scoring early hi the third.
This was quickly annulled on
Mathers power play goal
• assisted by Wood. Twenty
seconds later, Graham kept
the puck all to himself and
put Goderich ahead by

With the help of Wood he
repeated, his performance
halfway through the period.
Peters gave Smith his ninth
point of the day late in the •
third: • Andrew Telford
finalized the game by putting
a pass on. Graham's stick to
give the Green and Parent
Midgets an•11-1 victory and a

second spot in the final
standings Tuesday night,
defeating Burger Bar 12-5.
The win gave the
Holmesville team 31 points,
one more than third place
which went to Sunset Golf.
Thursday's game saw
Hodges. Mill bomb
Holmesville 9-2. The Mill's
Dan Calquhoun scored twice
and, assisted on two more,
giving him 36 goals and 37
assists for 73 points and the
league's scoring cham-
pionship. Calquhoun finished
the season with 19 goals and
20 assists in his last eight
games.

The GDCI midget boys
basketball team won the con-
solation championship of the
Huron -Perth Conference
playoff tournament, in Mit-
chell last Tuesday.
After losing their first
game to St. Marys, 51-34, the
Vikings bounced back to
beat Seaforth 44-31 to ad-
vance to the consolation
final. The Vikings won a
close 32-31 victory over Ex-
eter to capture the consola-
tion crown.
The Vikes stayed close
with St. Marys, a , team
which had defeated
Goderich by 30 points during
the regular schednle, until
the last four minutes of the
game. St. Marys led 22-20 at
the, half and 38-32 after three
quarters.
Joe Melady had 12 for the
Vikings while ;Kent Feagan
and Paul Brenner had six
apiece. Terry Bean added
four. Geof Chase, John
Thompson • and Dinish
Weerasorriya-had-two-points
each.
Against Seaforth, the Vik-
ings controlled the game

for Goderich. Joe Melady ad-
ded nine, Kent ' Feagan
hooped eight, and Paul Bren-
ner and Terry Bean got four
apiece. Checking in with two
points each were Ed Craig,
Dinish Weerasorriya, Greg
Leddy and Andrew Car-
ruthers. Pete, King added
one point.
The Vikings win over Ex-
eter was-a-team-victorybas-
ed on good defence and a
successful full court press.
In the fourth quarte
coach Myles Murdock's Vik-
ings tired and fell behind by
five • oints with two minutes
to go. With 30 seconds left,
the Vikings had cut the
deficit to three. Goderich
stole the ball with 20 seconds
left for another basket and
got the ball again with 15
seconds left on a travelling
violation. •'
A half -court pass on the
throw-in was tipped by Joe
Melady to Geof Chase who
scored on a layup to give the
Vikings their one point
margin of victory.
Chase had a total of 10
points, with Melady getting
eight. Terry Bean had six,
Kent Feagan four and John
Thompson and Paul Brenner
two points each.
The Vikings finished their
schedule Friday with a game
in Listowel. The Lords came
away with a 66-48 win over
the Vikings. Kent Feagan
had 16 points for Goderich,
Geof Chase added 12 and Joe
Melady got eight, Ed Craig,
Scott Wilson, Greg Leddy,
Terry Bean, Andrew Car-
ruthers and Dinish
Weerasorriya all had two .
points apiece. .
