The one -day championship tournament was held in Exeter. The Goderich boys came on strong in the first period, building up=30 lead with goals scored:.. Lucan scotl -one goal in the seconds i•eriod and another at the beginning of the third period. Then Jim Kelly scored for Goderich on an assist froth Stanbury. Lucan went on to score two more goals hewever to tie things up and "then got the tie -breaking goal 25 seconds into the overtime period. Coach Steve Buchanan said that, in his mind, the Goderich boys were the real • champions. He 'said they played a good game and showed true sportsmanship in the way they accepted their defeat. Extremely poor officiating and -rowdiness on the part of the Lucan coaching staff and fans tipped the scales against Goderich, he commented. The - game against Lucan was Goderich's third that day. The boys met Lambeth first, defeating them 7-4. Lambeth scored the first goal of the garne and then Garrow scored an. unassisted goal to tie things up for Goderich. Lambeth scored two more goals before the end of the first period. Goderich came on strong in the second period with -two goals scored by Larry Leppington on assists from Kelly and Garrow, an 'unassisted goal by Garrow, and a goal by Darren Stanbiay assisted by Brown and Bowman Lambeth scored one more goal in the third period_and Goderich finished off the period with two of their own. Two area horses, Bristol Cream, owned by Dr. and Mrs. Desmond Leeper, and Count Playboy, :owned by Mr. and Mrs. Keith Homun were selected to participate in the clinic. Both horses, boarded at the Jeff Seddon Quarter Horse Farm, did very well. Mr. and Mrs.. Homun's quarter horse was the youngest horse at the clinic which was given by Cindy Neale, et member of the Canadian Olympic Dressage Team. It has been enlightening for riders to compare the training techniques of the different members of , the Canadian Dressage Team, Bristol and Count will hopefully attend the third and . final clinic funded by Sports Canada in April in., preparation for this- year's show season.
