After eight hours of playing instruments and singing songs,
these GDCI music students still had it in them to gather
round Darell Kloeie at the piano. The students raised about
$1500 for their exchange trip to Windsor through the play-a-
thon held last Friday. (Photo by Cath Wooden)

A schedule .for professinal
ievelopment days for Huron
County school teachers was
approved by board members
this week.
Trustee John Goddard,
suggested that more profes-
sional development days be
scheduled for Saturdays so
that students could stay in
the classroom on regular
school days. '
He learned that three pro-
fessional development days
this year were held on Satur-
days and more weekend
events are planned for the
future- • •
Besides that, more co-
operation with teachers in
neighboring counties will be
encouraged to take advan-
tage of top flight speakers
and developmental aids for
Huron teachers.

EDUCATION BRIEFS.
by the Huron County Board
of Education Monday requir-
ing that one local county
• board of health member be
appointed from among the
members of the local school
board.
" . This would require an
amendment 'to the Public
Health Act. .
It is felt that since a major
part of the work of the board
of health is providing health
services to schools, a school
trustee should serve on the
board of health.
A similar recommenda-
tion that a trustee serve on
withe county planning board
was not approved.
Council approves
hospital grants
By SHARON DIETZ
Huron County Council ap-
proved grants totalling
$220,204 to two of the
county's hospitals when they
met February 26.
Wingham and District
Hospital will receive $119,150
for construction to expand
the hospital's out-patient
area, laboratory and
radiology department.
Council also granted
$100,954 to Clinton Public
Hospital for the redevelop-
ment of the ambulatory care
services of the hospital.
In both instances, the
county's share of the cost is
37 percent of the amount ap-
proved by the province.
The county decided not to
participate in a second pro-
ject at the Clinton Hospital.
The county turned down a re-
quest for $54,500 to be spent
on renovations at the
hospital. The county is bound
by its own bylaw which
limits participation to 37 per-
cent of the amount approved
by the province. The pro-
vince is not contributing to
the renovation project at the
Clinton Hospital.
The province's contribu-
tion to the Wingham project
totals $318,000 and its share
of the Clinton project to
redevelop ambulatory care
services amounts to $405,684.
