Says
farmers...:
*from page 8A
co-operate with n -
dations, whether he should
be fined or taken to court.
George Klosler told the au-
dience that in his opinion the
proposed act "leaves a lotto
be desired" He was par-
ticularly • critical of the idea
that • agricultural reserve
land zonings could be the
subject of a vote every five
years. He said already in -
some areas where farmers
want to expand their oPera-
tions., they're being
prevented from doing 'so,
since urban expansion
means the land wiil•be zoned
differently within the next
two or three years.
Also, Mr. Klosler asked
why the OFA couldn't use a
document already in ex-
istence, the government's
Strategy for the Preserva-
tion of Agricultural Land, to
draw up its own land use
guidelines.
The speaker also called for
a uniform' land use policy
right across the province.
While he said the '
Agricultural . Development
and_ Protection ' Act working
paper, prepared by a
member of the OFA staff,
was good "in theory", he-
said he believes it will be •
some time before it's refined
for presentation to the
Minister of Agriculture. • . `
Before discussion on: the'
document concluded Merle
'Gunby., . an Ashfield
Township farmer and past -
president of the Huron
Federation, said he believed
the county federation's land
use policy plan is more com-
• prehensive than the provin
tial • organization's docu-
ment.
•
The proposed act will be
• discussed by, other county
organizations, and then
taken back to the • OFA for
revision.
Miss Piggy
in demand
The Publicity and Promo-
tion Committee of the 1981
Ontario Pork Congress,
under the energetic chair-
manship of Ross Wilkie, is in
the process of negotiating to .
bring "Miss Piggy" of the
Muppets, to the Congress
next June as a major attrac-
tion.
Through the joint sponsor-
ship of the Ontario Pork Pro-
ducers; Marketing Board
and the Congress, plans are
also underway to have Les
Nessman; the famous hog
news reporter from WKRP,
Cincinnati, attend the Con-
gress to present ' "Miss
Piggy" with a suitable
award.
The 1981 Congress is being
held on June 23, 24 and -25 at
the Stratford Coliseum.
Belgrave
family
loses all
BLYTH - A Belgrave area
family was left homeless
after a morning fire on
February 5 destroyed their
home at lot 37, concession 9
of East Wawanosh Town-
ship.
Lottie Scott and children
John, 23; Bill, 19 and Allan,
15 were taken to Wingham
and District Hospital where
they were treated for minor
burns, bruises and lac-
cerations. Karen Scott, 22,
received extensive burns to
40 per cent of her body and
was " transferred from
Wingham to Victoria
Hospital in London.
Jim and Kevin Scott were
the only family members
who were uninjured in the
blaze that broke out shortly
before 1:30 a.m.
When Wingham Fire Chief
Dave Q -others arrived on the
Scene, the living room and
the stairway were a mass of
flames and it is believed that
the fire started in that area.
Damage was set at $60,000
and the home was partially
covered by insurance.
