Goderich volunteers for the recent Cerebral Palsied telethon have sent me a copy of your January 14, 1981 issue. I want to compliment your paper on the interesting and perceptive article "Help Disabled to Bright Future". The Thomsons are beautiful people and can help us all become more aware of the needs of disabled persons and their families. We are sure that their interview on the telethon motivated many to respond with a donation. Over $9,000 was raised for Participation Lodge from the immediate Goderich area. Enclosed is $1 for two more copies of your January 14, 1981 issue for our files and our picture album. Gratefully yours, Lloyd G. Wiseman (Rev.), Chairman, Fund Raising Committee, Participation Lodge, 1029 4th Ave. W., Owen Sound, Ontario. N4K 4W1 • P.S..1'was also interested in noting Bob Ball's Minister's Study. Bob and I were colleagues--in--Union- ville in the '60s. I had lost track of where Bob was and am glad to discover that he is in Goderieh. Ellen Connelly, Campaign Chairman. An open letter to the peo- ple of Goderich: On Valentine's Day even- ing, you gathered in the fros- ty cold on Courthouse Square and patiently waited for the "Candles off .Hope" prayer vigitfor our "brother"Terry Fox, to begin. Although it was a Saturday night, with a variety of choices open to you, you stood with lighted Candles . in hand and unselfishly prayed for Terry and all those stricken with cancer. If ever a town responded with more loving hearts, it would have to go a long way to beat this town of Goderich. (There were also faces unfamiliar to Goderich,... there is no in- tenttosnulryour appearance at this service only more convenient for my pen to in- clude you in the nam of Goderich) . There was love and caring and a feeling of closeness ... for those moments in time we were one and at peace. Then you saw all those glow- ing faces, some • .even brighter than the candles they held; you knew where the hearts of Goderich were on Valentine's Day: Here , was love e pressed .-at 'ets . purest and most potent. Thank you, God, for making people so lovable and loving. There are many in- dividuals to be thanked sincerely ,.. for in six 'short xlays,..the.impossible..became possible. To the Kinettes, I have . only the deepest respect And highest regard. They supported this project completely. ( And to you, 'Diane, what can I say? You were terrific!) . To Mayor Worsell, Chief Pat King, the P.U.C., Many thanks for your cooperation and receptiveness: To the Reverends Royal, Crocker and Ashton, particular thanksfor your total accep- - tance- and support. You gave the Service warmth and dignity. To the management and staff of the S analStar' ... I salute you! You literally "held up the. presses" and gave our "Candles of Hope" the play it !needed. With time at a minunum, you. rallied 'round and laid your feelings on the line.
