There will be lots to see and do for the whole family. In addition to book bargains, there will be theatre tours, a refreshment counter and a bake table. Admission is free and all pro- ceeds go to the Blyth Festival. Here, children take part in "Picnic."(photo by Yvette Zandbergen) Festival plays up for `Tanya' STRATFORD - Two Stratford Festival ar- tists have been nominated for 1987 Tony Awards, Festival Associate Director Brian MacDonald received two nominations for The Mikado. He was named in the best director of a musical and best choreography categories. For the• Festival in 1987, he is directing and choreographing Cabaret which opens the 1987 season June 1 in the Festival Theatre (previews begin May 16) . Ann Curtis was nominated in the best costume .design category for Me and My Girl, the smash muscial hit that earned a total of 13 Tony nominations including best musical. For the Festival this season, she is costume designer for director Robin Phillips' production of The School For Scan- dal which opens June 5 in the Festival Theatre: School matinee performances of ,'the production began May 6. The Mikado, with design by Susan Benson and musical direction by Berthold Carriere, was first produced as part of the 1982 Strat- ford Festival'season and was revived in 1983 and 1984 at Stratford. This past winter Ed and David Mirvish, together with Brian MacDonald, co-produced an American tour of The Mikado that led to a subsequent five- week run on Broadway. Me and My Girl began in British repertory theatre, subsequently transferring to Lon- don's West End and then to Broadway where it has been a major hit for the past several months. Matthew Sproul On Friday, May 29,, the grades 6, 7 and,8s had a theme day with Baseball as the theme. We did activities such as cooking, baseball card activities„ language, art, music and math. The captains were from our class. Each captain had to pick a ma- jor league baseball team and have their team wear the colours'of t»eteam picked. Grade 6, room 7, is involved in a study of Europe. We have- chosen a country in western Europe and are researching such areas as land, location, culture, history, aid agriculture. At the end of ourproject we, are planning to set up our room as a- travel agency where we convince tourists to travel to our country.- We are planning to have a banquet to sample the different cuisine from the various countries. They are going to bring in old art,cles 'from home and buy them. We had hot dogs on May 29. Room 9' is also working on a' dog unit. The students are allowed to bring in their dogs to show the class. Mrs. Harriett Shillinglaw came in and talked to the class about dogs on Thursday,. May' 28. She brought her beautiful, well-trained Airedale dog with her. Thank you, Mrs. •Shillinglaw. Kindergarten 2 ` A class trip to Storybook Gardens, Lon- don, was planned for Friday, May 29. Students were to write in their journals about what they hoped to see and do there.
