Garden looks
like 'War s ° . one'
says reader
LETTE=RS
Dear Editor,
The billboard on the way into Goderich
proclaims •" I'he Prettiest Town in Canada",
and our tourist brochures boast of the pret-
ty, well -kept .parks, and flowered street
corners.
Our•Parks and Works department crews
are continually working to keep the town
looking pretty and green, and we, as
residents are proud of the way it looks. •
There is a plaque, down at the harbour, at
the entrance to the South Pier that an-
nounces "A PEACE GARDEN, in Honour of
the International Year of Peace", 'yet all
around it, and lining the entire boardwalk
from the south pier to the end of
Christopher~ beach., the "PEACE
GARDEN" looks more like a "WAR
'LONE". "
'1'he flowers and shrubs which were so
carefully planted last year have been left
unattended, and are a mass of weeds,
stones, and assorted refuse. They looked
like they haven't been watered once this
year, and many of the shrubs are in the pro-
cess of succumbing to the elements.
!What a disgrace!
Can our town not see to it. that this
beautiful area, which has attracted so many
people, locals and tourists alike, is main-
tained in the same careful ,and thoughtful
manner that the rest of the parks and flower
beds in the town are?
What do the rest of your readers, .who en -
jay the boardwalk on a warm summer even-
ing think'?
Sincerely
.Doug. R. Bundy
