work was supposed to be wait -
ng for Mr. Kolkman at the
Wallace Turkey Farms.
However, when they arrived in
the area they discovered that
there were enough workers at
the farm, therefore they stayed
over in the village for the
weekend before moving on to
another farm in Wingham.
In Wingham they found work
on the farm of Stanley Marks.
Mrs. Kolkman remembers
their time on this farm as being
time well spent.
Their stay in this area was
also shortlived as there was not
enough work during the winter
months to support the family.
Next it was on to Saltford where
Mr. Kolkman got work on the
Bissel dairy farm.
`That was one big place.
Everything worked out well, it
was a nice place and a good
farm," Mrs. Kolkman stated,

to be milked and cream to be

It was during their three
years at this farm that the
Kolkmans were reunited with
other Vroomshoop citizens.
Herman Schoemaker was the
first to make the trip to
Saltford. Another friend, John
Kassies, was already in
Canada, but he was in
Saskatchewan.

just before Easter,"• . Mrs.
Kolkman explained.
It was also around this time
_that the Kolkmans began atten-
ding Christian Reformed
Church services that were held
in the Presbyterian Church in
Clinton. Mrs. Kolkman noted
that it was nice to be able to 'go
to this church because Dutch
people from all: over the area
showed up for the Sunday
services.
After leaving Saltford the
Kolkmans were ready to own a
farm of their own, and to this
end they purchased a place just
north of Clinton.
`'It was not easy going, it was
hard work=,'-' said Mrs.
Kolkman,' looking back on the
early days of the farm: The fact
that the going was tough didn't
stop the family, as she stated,
"My husband was a : real
farmer."
