At least one family im-
migrating to ' Canada from
Holland in the post war 1950s
found the trip to be rewarding
in a number of ways.
This family was that of
Willem and Mynte (Gerrits)
Kolkman . from Den Ham,
Vroomshoop. The pair, along
with their children; Sandra, 10,
Bill, 8, Bert, 5 and Jane, 3, left
Holland 'on May. 16, 1950 and
landed in Halifax shortly
thereaftef.
Mrs. Kolkman has fond
memories of their trip across
on the ship called the SS
Volendam.
"The sea was calm, it: was a
nice trip," she said, later ad-
ding that although the 'sea was
calm, her husband was seasick
throughout the trip.
The Kolkkmans stayed for one
day in Halifax before hopping
onto a train- for Blyth, where
