After a successful run with the the
darkly -dramatic "The Effect of Gamma
Rays on Man -in -the -moon Marigolds" in
their last production, the Goderich Little
Theatre is demonstrating the diversity of
the group by now staging a "Red Hot" Neil
Simon comedy. "Last of the Red Hot
Lovers," opens tonight ( May 6) and runs
through Saturday, May 9, at the Livery.
Director Graham McEwan has cast four
experienced GI,T performers in this pro-
duction, drawing on the group's wealth of
talented actresses for three of the roles.
Glenn Creamer, wh, plays the title role
of Barney Cashman, is a relative.
newcomer to the stage having acted before
GLT audiences only once before in the re-
cent production of "The Front Page". This
time out, Creamer has a much larger part
and a more challenging role. as the
beleaguered Romeo of Simon's hit play.
His various love interests are played by
Kathleen Hamilton, Margaret Hill and
*Maureen Penn, all familiar faces to
regular GLT theatre -goers.'
McEwan expects the production •to go
over well with local audiences.
"Neil Simon is such a wonderful
playwrite," he said.
The play is about "a roan, who after a
long and happy married life, decides to
have an affair. In the course of doing that,.
he brings three different women to his
mother's apartment," explained McEwan.
The varied personalities and idiosyn-
crasies of the three women result in
"hilarious complications," for the would-
be adulterer, he added.
Though he has a long history of involve-
ment with the GLT, this play marks
McEwan's debut in the director's chair.
One of the greatest challenges, he said, in
directing a play of, these comic propotions,
is getting the cast. to "play it straight,"
enough to be effective.
"It's certainly a hilarious play," he said.
Producer Ruth Leonard and stage
manager Barbara -Ellen McLeod , are
assisted by a large number of GI.T behind-
• the -scenes personnel in the staging of this
production.

' This is much riskier than putting on a pro-
duction that has already been a hit, say, 'on
Broadway. Froin ` the Festival's earliest
days, our audience has shown that'thev like
new Canadian plays and this is very en-
