Greene' s voice will r turn
to Stratfor. Festiv heatre
A familiar voice will return to the Festival
Theatre this season for performances of
Mother Courage. Lorne Green,, a member of
the Festival Acting Company in 1956, will be
a member of the cast in voice, if not in
person. •
Stratford Festival Artistic Director John
Neville, director of Mother Courage, an-
nounced today that Lorne Greene has
recorded a series of speeches in a Hollywood
studio. They will be used as introductions to
each of the scenes in the play.
"In lob (AN u uueau C, ut ecnt uAu nuue pro-
jections to explain what would happen in the
'next scene," says John Neville. '`Because of
the structure of the Festival Theatre's
thrust stage, that was not practical. Then
we got the idea of using a news announcer's
voice instead. Who could' be more ap-
propriate than Lorne Greene''
"Canadians first became aware of his as
one of CBC Radio's most recognizable news
announcers during World War Two. He also
was a member of the Festival Acting Com-
pany during the early days in the tent. tie is
the perfect choice for Mother Courage and I
am honoured that he has consented to this
participation in our production as we
celebrate our 35th pniversary Season,"
Mother Courage with Susan Wright in the
title role opens June 3 in the Festival
Theatre I previews begin May 7 r and :runs
through July 26. It is directed by John
Neville with design by Sue LePage, music
composed and arranged by Berthold Car -
mere, lighting design by Louise Guinantl •
