Atoms split tourney games Oh Saturday March 14, the Machinist • ,Atoms travelled to Brussels for a tourna- ment. In their first game they. defeated Cambridge 3-1. Chris Dickson, .Jason Hayter and Andrew Scott scored for Goderich. • 'Their next game was against Seaforth who proved to be a little more dominant in size and positional play. The Machinists played well but came up short by a 3-1 margin. The Toss eliminated Goderich from further play. artha doesn't feel old or underfed like older people The weather reports from "up home" sound pretty cold — heavy snowstorms — and we shiver just thinking about you. How are you doing with your hot cereals? I've been getting a lot .of talking to, regarding the foods older people should have. Darn it, I don't feel like an "older people" and yve don't look underfed, but health foods are a big deal here and everyone is trying to educate everyone! Some of it I agree With and hot 'oatmeal doesn't bother me at all, but the instant foods -- "add boiling water and eat" - kind should be turned off. I am told ( we never use the stuff) they are loaded with sugar, spiked with artificial ingredients and can't be compared with the whole grains with their own bran added, or 'wheat germ and or brewers yeast, which can brighten your whole day. ' Fibre is what is needed for grown-ups — krds too.I think -it is -a -must f rr gbed—diger; tion and'. the, bulk for good regularity. Along with the bran, wheat germ provides 26 per cent protein (a steak is only 19 per cent). It is also rich in zinc, which helps your -body resist -infection, speeds. -healing and had Vitamin E, which helps slow down the aging process and improves -circula- tion which clears veins and arteries of fat- ty depostis and also has lecithins which lower cholesteral levels. Boy, am I getting educated. All very in- teresting — and I feel GREAT. There are a number of fine restaurants in our area, so, as a treat, we go out at least once a week for lunch or dinner. It breaks the monotony for Walt — I don't • have that problem. We have been going to a Mennonite place that is down to earth, serves great food 'and lots of it and Walt .gets his mashed potatoes which look like a volcano just ready to run over with gravy and he loves it. Morning, noon and night the place is full and that is the way it is anytime we have gone there. I have eased up on the gravy • at home, since Walt gets such a lot of it there; Recently a lady who knows many eating places in, the city has been telling us how she has watched the food preparation in different places. She wouldn't believe the additives that are used. The one that upset her most was handling. Chinese food. They were still using monosodium gl,utamal. (MSG) in grayy and some sauces. Also the "brown" rice was just bleached, process- ed, low nutrition, white rice that was stain - R®" .'!ND 'N ABOUT With Martine Roth!.'ur°rro ed' by the Soya -Sauce or arificial coloring. She felt the restaurant owner§ should have some obligation to the public to know more about health and nutrition and especially the vitamins and .minerals we need. Many years ago, I was interested in Vitamin E. It was just beginning to be noticed. I was working hard and having a i bad time. I. asked my doctor about it and he was quite -upset. ' "I know nothing good about it, but if you think they know more than the doctors then go ahead and try .it," he said. Well — I did and I've never stopped "try- ing it." A Dr. Shutz, his brother and sister; alI-.. now famous, had beets working on Vitamin E for years. I think it was Dr. Evan Schutz, in London at that time, the others in Toron- to, who started the work on E and now it is going on to bigger and better things. Thank .goodness for such hard working, brilliant people. It is wonderful thatour doctors really know about the mysterious vitamins and minerals — why; how and ' when to use them? We are fortunate and have you noticed people are well and hear- ty AND older? This has a great deal to do with whether you are enjoying your retired years or are fading away and don't know what to do about it. I'll never forget the elderly woman who lashed out at men in a shop here in Sarasota and later, when she was so sorry all I could say was " Are you taking vitamins?" I wouldn't wish that ex- perience on anyone, believe me. Daughter-in-law Madeline is now home from the hospital. Apparently she's had a weak heart for some years but didn't know it. She is a fighter and I feel she will soon be bouncng back. Thank you for being concerned. I love you. Pass it on. Take care of each other and take your vitamins.
