niversary of the UCW and unveiled at a special service held on Sun-

I`orth Street UCW celebrates 25th
The 25th anniversary of the North Street
United Church United Church , Women
(UCW) was celebrated with a special mass
on Sunday, Jan. 11.
Guest speaker for the occasion was Emi-
ly Woods, of London, a teacher for several
years and staff associate in team ministry
at Aurora, Hyde. Park and First St. An-
drews United Churches in London. She is
currently involved with National Church
House, in Toronto, in Division of Mission in
Ministry with children. She is especially
interested in mission and education.
All eleven past presidents of the local
UCW are still active in North Street United
and -were present for the ceremony.
st President Jean, Hanly • was the
soloist for the service, anthems were sung
by the ladies choir and church ladies also
handled the ushering duties..
Three candles were lit during a brief
remony: Marie Hughes and Jean Bet-
tger, for the past; Christina Hoffrneyer
and Margaret Altori, . for the present;
Canadian Girls in Training members
Elisabeth Ball and Heather Zurbrigg, for
the future.
A 25th anniversary banner,made by
Jean Hanly, Lou Bundy, Betty Bodaly and
Joan Hibbert :was unvieled.. This banner
. was created by the UCW 'for the World
Council of Churches meeting in Vancouver
in 1984. The rainbow on the .banner
celebrates the variety. of women who
belong to the United Church of Canada and
symbolizes their gifts for the work of the
.church.
Tea and cake were served after church.
' The cake, decorated by Everett and
Beatrice Sperling; featured a rainbow
theme.
