Goderjch resident Walter Thomas Cooper dies at age 89
WALTER THOMAS COOPER
Walter. Thomas Cooper of Goderich died
Monday, January 5 at the age of 89.
Burn in Toronto on January 6, 1897, he
was the son of the late Charles and
Elizabeth Cooper. -
Surviving are his wife, the former Hattie
Violet Kaye and. son-in-law Glenn Gibson
of Goderich. He is fondly reiiiembered'by'
Lenore,,,Paul and Kim Cooke.
Mr. Cooper was predeceased by
daughter Doreen I Mrs. Glenn Gibson 1.
A private family service was held at the
McCallum and Pella Funeral Horne on
Wednesday, January 7 with Rev. G.L.
Royal, of Knox •Presbyterian Church of-
ficiating. Interment in Maitland
Cemetery.
MARY ALICE HENDERSON
Mrs, Mary Alice Henderson of Goderich
died at ° Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital op Sunday, January 4 at the age
of 77. `.
Born in Goderich on October 6, 1909, she
was the daughter of the late John Blain
McKay arld Margaret Pierce. She mar-
ried John Gordon Henderson, who sur-
vives, on May 8, 1943. She and'her husband
owned and operated the former ;Hender-
son's Bookstore in Goderich until retiring
in 1980.
Mrs.. Henderson was a member of the
Knox Presbyterian"- Church, a charter'
Member of BlueWater Chapter, 284 OES,
Worthy Matron '63, Currently Worthy
Matron, past regent of the Almeek Chapter
IODE, past president of the afternoon aux-
iliary of WMS of Knox Church, past presi-
dent ot Arthur Circle, member of the
Hospital Auxiliary, member of the
MacKay Centre and the MacKay
Choristers, and a member of the Knox
Church Choir.
Surviving besides her husband are' one
daughter, Barbara and her husband Jack
Hainsworth of Kitchener; three grand-
d"aughters; "Nancy,'Kitchener;
and-Heather--
Hainsworth; and close cousins, Mary
( McKinnon) Currell and Anne i McKin-
non) Smith of Goderich, and Jack McKin-
non of Guelph. • r
The funeral service was held Wednes-
day, January 7 at the McCallum and Palla
Funeral Home with Rev. G.L. Royal of
Knox Presbyterian Church officiating.
Blue Water Chapter 284 OES held a
memorial service on Tuesday, January 6.
Pallbearers were Wilt' Goodman, David
Goodman, Donald Currell, Art FitzGerald,
Michael FitzGerald and Justin FitzGerald.

GLADYS MINNIE MATHERS
Mrs. Gladys Minnie Mathers of RR 2
Goderich died Wednesday, January 7 at
the age of 70.
Born in Hay Township on January 12,
1916, she was the daughter of the late Ed
Maier and Marie Burrniester. She Mar-
ried the late Charles Alfred Mathers in
January 1937.
Surviving are one daughter, , Judy of
Wingharn; 'six sons, Charles of Goderich,
Floyd of London, Ken of London, John of
Goderich, Eugene and Raymond at home;
seven sisters, Edna ( Mrs. George Rendell)
of London, Hilda ('Mrs Howard 'I'homlin-
son) of Thamesford; Mildred (Mrs. Tom

1934. He was a Member of Victoria Street
United Church in Goderich.
Surviving besides his wife 'are one
daughter Eugenia .and her husband Clem
Desjardins; two brothers, Charles of
Goderich and Wilfred of Collingwood; and,
one sister, Mrs: Edith Lasenby of
Cambridge. -

Martha Jean Elliott, of Fort Erie, died
Thursday, Jan. 28 at Douglas Memorial
,Hospital, Fort Erie in her 66th year.
She is survived by her husband, John
Elliott, of Fort Erie; her mother, Mrs.
Martha Dean, of Fort Erie; a son Darrel
and his wife Valerie, of Port Hope and a
daughter Darlene ( Mrs. Sandy Nelson 1, of
Fort Erie.
A member of the Royal Canadian Air
Force during World War II, she was a
member of the RCAF Association of Fort
Erie and Canadian Legion Branch 71. She
was also a former instructor of the Royal
Canadian Air Cadets Squadron 337.
After resting at Fort Erie Chapel of
Davidson Funeral Homes, Fort Erie; in-
terment took • place at Greenwood
Cemetery.,

62.
Born in Goderich on April 14, 1924, she was
the daughter of the late Carl Alfonso Cam-
, gipn and Margaret Frances Farr.' She mar-
ried John Stoddart Evans in Jane of 1953.

A funeral mass was held at St. Peter's
Roman- Catholic Church in Goderich on
Wednesday, January 7 with Rev. Fr. Frank
Dentinger officiating.
Pallbearers'were Cayley Hill, Dr. Kenton
Lambert, John Graham, Stephen Campion,
Frank Campion and Richard Scrimger.
Interment in Maitland Cemetery. , -

. Miss Mary Margaret Campion of
Goderich died on Sunday, January 11 'at the
age of 64.
'Born in Goderich on September 15, 1922;
she was the daughter, of the late Carl Alfonse
Campion and Margaret Frances Farr.'

Welland and Thomas of Goderich.
She was predeceased by her sister,
Evelynne (Mrs. John S. Evans ) one week
earlier. -
A funeral mass was held at St. Peter's
Roman Catholic Church on ° Tuesday,
• January .13 with Rev. Joseph Hardy
officiating.
Pallbearers` were Frank Campion,
Stephen Campion, Timothy Evans, Michael
Evans, Richard. Srimger and , Donald
McMillan. .

Former grader operator for Goderich
---township-and-farmer- in.-Hullett Township.-
Graydon Albert Neal, of 177 Albert Street,
Clinton and formerly of Hullett,Township,
died on January 7 in Clinton Public Hospital.
He was 71 years old. '
Mr. Neal was born in Goderich Township
on May 3, 1915 to the late Russell,and Sarah
Catherine (Hardy) Neal. On July he
married the former Olive Knox in the
Walton United Church manse.
Following their marriage, the Neals farm-
ed in Hullett Township on Ahe Baseline
Road, until they moved to Clinton in 1957.As
well• as farming, IVr. Neal was employed
with Murphy Bu Lines and operated a
grader for the Township, of Goderich for
several years.
Mr. Neal is survived by his wife,•and son
Murray and.' his wife Irene of Guelph, and
granddaughters Catherine and her husband
Gary Burgess of Harriston and Lisa Neal at
home.
He is'also survived by one brother, Allan
and his wife Yopie, of Clinton. .
A funeral and committal 'service were
held on January 9 at Ball.and Falconer
Funeral Home, Clinton. -
