Stedmans return.
to Clinton
Jim and Janet Lawrie had a busy time on
Monday morning clean ing up the debris
left when a huge maple limb crashed down
from a tree during a Sunday evening storm.
The limb barely missed a parked car in the
neighbor's driveway. Many Blyth residents
headed for the safety of their basements on
Sunday night when the storm that swept
through the area brought threats of a
tornado. (Shelly McPhee Heist photo)

STORM
Stedmans is pleased to introduce tan and Rose Marie Samuels, their dealers for
the new Clinton store, opening in mid-August.
Ian and Rose Marie have already moved to Clinton from Oakville. Ian, a Toronto
native, has an accounting background, most recently an assistant treasurer of
a Feed Wholesaler in Mississauga. Rose Marie, a native of Mitchell was a teacher
for, twenty-eight years with the Perth and Peel County Boards of Education.
Stedmans has a long history in Clinton - one of the first stores in the Stedmans
chain opened in Clinton over thirty years ago. The new store will open in the former
Shirai Dept. Store location and will be a prototype for the Stedmans chain - featur-
ing an expanded product line. Watch for it - we know you'll like it!
The storm on July 19 caused branches to break away, covering streets and lawns of Blyth
residents. So, on the following morning, many residents were out cleaning up their yards.
One such person was Wanda Elliott. She had the help of her two sons, Jason and Darryl.

Delegation tells council of
"severe problem" they are facing

have been omitted to protect those involved.
CLINTON - A delegation appeared before
council during their July 20 meing to
enlighten members about a "se ere pro-
blem" they are facing.
After hearing the complain , council
agreed to delve into the matter reeper with
the town's chief of police.
The problem stems from group of
CCB me
residents living in the western section of
town who have, according to the delegation,
been harassing people and the state of their
property is devaluing neighboring property.
"If they're still there next year, I'll be
looking for a 50 per cent reduction in my
taxes, if not more," said a spokesperson.
The residents' major concern is what they
call a lack of police protection.
"What we want to know is where is the

police protection?"
One resident said the members of his
family "had to leave home and find other
accomodations" on more than one occasion
so they could get some sleep.
Mayor John Balfour, who was first made
aware of the problem about one year ago,
agreed, "We have a very serious problem
here and the matter will be looked into."
