VANASTRA - The end of the school year
has kept the students and staff of the
Vanastra Public School very busy.
On May 25 the Grade 7 class travelled to
Midland to visit St. Marie Among the:
Hurons.
On June 1 the Peer Tutor Group travelled
to London to the Children's Museum. The
peer tutor group involved students from the
high school working with some of the
Vanastra students.
Lai Racksasouk deserves special mention
for his performance in the Huron County
Gauss Math Test. Lai placed third in this
test.
Also special mention to Murray Jeffery
for his great job in this test.
June 18 was a quiet day at the school as
all but Grade 7 students were away for the
day;
Kindergarten, Grades 1 and 2 travelled to
Seaforth for the day. The students visited
the Seaforth police station, fire hall and
library in the morning. They visited the
Lions Club Park for lunch, where Mr. Shap -
ton cooked them hot dogs. After lunch the
students toured the Seaforth Community
Hospital.
Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 travelled to Elmira,
the same day, to learn more about the Men-
nonite way of life. The students have been
learning about the Mennonites in class.
On June 17 some of the students travelled
to Hullett Wildlife Area for the day while
other students travelled the Clinton Public
School for a slo-pitch baseball tournament.
Mrs. Maloney's Kindergarten held their
graduation ceremony on June 23.
Also on June 23, Mrs. Beuermann's Grade
3 and 4 class travelled to her families farm
at Brodhagen. They were also joined by the
people from Huronview who belong to the
HUG program. They were treated to a
barbecue at noon.
School officially ends at noon today, June
24 and will resume on September 8.
Christian Reformed Church News
The Vanastra Christian Reformed Church
will be holding Vacation Bible School from
July 13 to July 24 again this year. The bible
school is for children ages 5 and up, and will
run each weekend from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
On July 11 the church will hold a
decorated bike parade. Children are to
decorate their bikes and meet in the church
parking lot at 11 a.m.

Lioness
The last business meeting of the year was
held on June 14 at the Vanastta Recreation
Centre.
The club made its last donation of the
year. The club has made a donation of
cookies to the Vacation Bible School to be
held at the Vanastra Christian Church in
July.
The club will hold its first dinner meeting
on September 10.
Baseball Happenings
The Bantam girls play their first home
garne today (June 24) at 7 p.m. against the
Goderich Township midget girls team.
The squirt girls played a game against
Goderich last Thursday. Although the girls
lost they put a good effort into their first
game.
The squirt boys played their first home
game last Tuesday against Hullett. They
also lost but put a good effort forward.
Any coaches of any teams wishing to put
the scores or dates of their games in this col-
umn please call Maureen at 482-7723 on Sun-
day night.
Plans made for events

HOLMESVILLE - The Enterprising
Seniors held their meeting Thursday even-
ing in the community centre. Everett McIl-
wain chaired the meeting. Gertude Trewar-
tha played the piano for the opening and roll
call was taken.
Frank Yeo gave the treasure's report.
Charlotte Norman read the minutes of the
last meeting. In the correspondence thank
yous received from Pearl and John
McFarlane for the plant for their 50th an-
niversary and from Bessie Elliott for her
flowers while in hospital.
Marion Powell reported on the birthday
party at lluronview and on the entertain-
ment. Ladies are to bring squares and
cookies. A nominating committee was set up
and consists of Mervyn Lobb, Gerald Orr,
Fran Powell, Helen Lindsay.
A picnic is to be held August 13 at Clinton
Conservation Park at 1:30 p.m. Ladies bring
dessert. The social committee is to purchase
hot dogs and corn. •
Euchre and shuffleboard were held anti
lunch and social was enjoyed.
W.I. News
Goderich Township Women's Institute
prepared and served 115 graduates and
parents in the community centre in
Holmesville on June 22.
Sunday School Anniversary
On Sunday morning the junior choir led in
the Ministry of Music in Holmesville United
Church. Rev. Jim Bechtel led in the worship
service. Scripture Reading was by Julie
Rutledge. Prayers were said by Stephanie
Bush and Shari Lobb. Offertory prayer was
given by Laurie Lobb. Receiving the offer-
ing was Jason Lobb, Jason Nakamura,
.Jason Yeo, Greg Rutledge.
For the singing of the hymns, John
Grgidanus played his accordion. Brian
Hemingway gave the Benediction and
David Hemingway introduced the guest for
the service who was Ev. Smith and Salty
dressed as a sailor. They kept the children
busy answering questions on the Bible. Salty
sang the children a solo. Greg Crawford
thanked Mr. Smith and Salty and presented
him with a gift.
Awards and promotion were given out by
Bill Crawford, Superintendent of Sunday
School, assisted by Ray Bush of the Elders.
Following the service the Sunday School
served a lunch. This ends Sunday School for
the summer months.
50th Anniversary
Congratulations to Mervyn and Jean
Lobb, who are celebrating 50 years of mar-
ried life.
On Saturday an open house was held at the
home.of Don and Allison Lobb.
Next Sunday at Holmesville United
Church, Rev. Lobb of Port Huron Michigan
will be preaching.

Brucefield woman wins
at Clinton Monster Bingo
CLINTON - A Brucefield woman, Carol
Hby, won the $1,000 jackpot prize during the
June 22 session of Monster Bingo held at the
arena here.
In the first early bird game Joan Dunn of
Goderich won $98.25, while Valerie Mar-
riage and Margaret Freeman, both of Clin-
ton, won the second early bird draw worth
$105.
The first regular game was won by
Chrystal Taylor of I,ondesboro, Edith
Burgess of Clinton and Grace MacDonald
and Carol Habel, both of Goderich.

game.
Following the playing of game four a
special game was held and the winners were
Rose Lindsay of Sarnia and Edna Fremlin
of Clinton. A door prize was then drawn and
the winner was Maude Weston of Bayfield.
There were nine winners in the fifth game
and they were Marg Bezzo of Clinton, Kathy
Rody of Auburn, Tiny Bedore of Goderich.
Alice Morris of Clinton, Beth McLean of
Goderich, Maude Weston of Bayfield, Minna
Scott and Barb Osborn of Seaforth and Myr-
tle Smith of Kitchener.
Mary Carter of Bayfield, along with Annie
Sallows of Vanastra and Ruby Willis of
Goderich were the game six winners.
In game seven the winners were Joan
Burley of Clinton and Don Fry of Seaforth,
while Elsie Hulley of Goderich and Maude
Weston of Bayfield won in game eight.
Another special game was played after
the eighth game and the winners were
Shirley Borden of Stratford, Don Watson of
Clinton, Marion Charter of Goderich and.
once again, Shirley Borden of Stratford.
Annie Sallows of Vanastra and Kay
O'Rourke of Seaforth were winners in the
ninth game, and Beth McLean of Goderich
was twice a winner in game 10.
In the final regular game, number 11, the
winners were Fred Seers of Goderich and
Betty Kittas of Dublin.
