Twenty-one attend Happy Gang pot -luck dinner

minutes of the last meeting were read by
secretary Margaret Good.
Thefollowing announcements were given.
Seniors' Day will be held at Huronview on
June 9. The meal will begin at 12:45 p.m.
and it will be followed by a program at 2
p.m. The cost for the day is $3.00. On August
19 a birthday meeting will be held at 2 p.m.
and the Happy Gang are to provide the
cookies and squares along with a 45 minute
musical program.
The members moved to give awards to
Hullett Central School graduation pupils for
their work in history, geography and
French. The school asked the Gang if they
would like a school news letter and they
decided they would.
The treasurer's report was given by Hazel)
Ried and it showed a balance of $75.19.
After the meeting 12 members took part in
a walk for the walk to the moon program.
Four tables of cards were played. The
winner for the ladies high was Dora Shob-
brook while Audrey Thompson had the lone
hands and Vietta Hoggart had the low. In
the mens' division Hazel Watkins had the
lone hands, Jean Scott had the high and Bob
Thompson had the low.
United Church News
Greeting members to the United Church
on May 31 were Rev. Snihur and Clara
Riley. The, ushers were Ken Armstrong, Ed
Salverda, Dennis Penfound and Gerban
Wilts.
Rev. Snihur welcomed all and gave the
call to worship along with the following an-
nouncements. Grace Fairey, the mother of
Alice Davidson, died on May 30. She would
have been 91 on June 5. The funeral was held
on June 1 at Taskers.
The property will be dedicated after
church on June 7. The dedication will be
followed with refreshments. On June 7 the
special guest will be the Seaforth Harmony
Kings. There will be no Sunday School. On
June 4 at 7 p.m. the senior youth group will
be holding a closing party.
Robbie Johnston and Christopher
Bromley received their graduation Bible
from the junior congregation. Gifts were
presented by Rev. Snihur and leader Jane
Hoggart.
The children's story was about a turtle.
The junior teachers were Denise Gross and
Pamela Salverda.
The first scripture reading was given by
Bernice Norman.
Bridal Showers
A bridal shower was held for Brenda
Millar at the home of Doreen Carter on May
29. Doreen was assisted by Marg Anderson,
Marlene Armstrong, Ruth Shaddick and
Beryl Reid.
The bride elect, her mother Mrs. Hugh
Millar and Mrs. Wm. Young, the groom
elect's mother, were pinned with corsages
Brenda thanked them all and lunch was
served. Twenty-one guests attended.
Friends and neighbors of Karen Johnston
gathered at the home of Edythe Beacom on
May 30.
Cake and ice cream were served by
Edythe Beacom, Laura Lyon and Betty
Moon.
A reading was given by June Fothergill
and a contest was won by Isabelle Airdrie.
Karen thanked everyone for the gifts and
the evening and invited them to attend her
wedding and reception on June 6.
Recital
A large number of people attended the
step dancing recital hosted by Cheryl
Bromley and her students on May 28.
Jack Lee was the master of ceremonies
and the pianist was Marie Flynn. Special
guests included Beth Knox who gave
readings, Deanna Lyon with a piano solo,
Lisa Bosman with a solo. Cheryl Bromley
did a clog step.
The pupils were Becky Archambault,
Julie Verberg, Andrea Vanendool, Amy
Shirtreed, Katie McGregor, Ashley Howson,
Kara Murray, Karla Stacey, Jennifer Szusz,
Rhonda Howatt, Paula Allen, Kelly
Bosman, Alison Charnney, Kerrie Szusz,
Kendra Shortreed and Katie Murray.
Appreciation was shown by the audience
and the students presented Cheryl with
gifts. The evening ended with a grand finale
of all the students stepping.
Personals
Don and Phyllis Newby of Innerkip visited
on May 31 with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Or-
val Newby.
The WI members attending the district
annual meeting in Blyth on May 25 were
Lois Elliott, Margaret Taylor, Alice
Buchanan, Elma Jewitt, Dora Heard, Helen
Lawson and Irene McCall.
Shirley Snell and her daughter Janice of
Alix, Alberta visited on June 1 with her aunt
Dora Shobbrook.
Mr. and Mrs. Ted Fothergill and Dennis
attended the funeral of her uncle Charles
Kesso at Trench Funeral Home in Listowel
on May 26.
Betty and Jerry Smith of Coburg visited
on the weekend with her parents Mr. and
Mrs. Burns.
Sympathy is extended to Alice Davidson
nn the death of herr mnthar (:rarer Fairav at
the age of 91 on May 30. They were former
residents here and moved to Wingham last
year.
A barn on the farm of Charlie and Sharon
Snell on Concession 7 in Hullett Township
burned on May 30.
Spending the night of May 30 with Dora
Shobbrook were Muriel, Ross, John, Sheryl,
Patricia and Sarah Millson of Woodstock,
along with Anna Graham of Paris. They all
had attended the wedding of Frank Garrow
and Heather Young in the Ontario Street
Church in Clinton and the reception in the
Clinton Legion. Also attending from here
were Gordon and Darlene Shobbrook, and
Ken and Joy V.odden.
On May 31 Dora Shobbrook attended a
barbecue at the home of Dorie and Rob
- Blake of Clinton in celebration or Curtis' se-
cond birthday.
Track and field winners
LONDESBORO - Hullett Central Public
School had their track and field meet on
May 22. The individual winners are:
13 -year-old Karen Plunket and Scott Vodden
for boys. The runner ups were Angela Mc-
Cool and Gerben Wilts. In the 12 -year-old
age group Melanie Knox and Tony Vanderli
were the winners. Joanne Wilts and Ray-
mond Wilts 'were the runner ups. Eleven -
year -old Kerrie Szusz and Jeff Hadenko
won. Second place was Danny Hoggart and
Sharon Bergsma.
Nine and 10 winners were Rachel Jenkins,
runner up Lindsay Anderson, for boys,
Peter Craig was at the top with Mark
Bricker close behind.

Szusz, runner up was Carla Stacey. From
the boys Micheal Salverda won with Fred
Datema and Jason Rutledge tied. Six -year-
olds, Ben Thompson won and Amanda
Anderson was second.
WI holds dessert euchre
Thursday night finished the Walton
Women's Institute euchre for this season.
Everyone sampled many desserts prior to
playing euchre. The food was set up in the
hall basement then 10 tables of euchre were
in play upstairs. Although it was quite warm
everyone enjoyed themselves.
Prizes were awarded to the one with the
highest score for the season with a $25 che-
que going to Bill McLelland and a planter of
flowers to Doreen Hackwell.

On May 28 the Grade 1 students from Blyth Public School held an assembly for their
schoolmates. During the assembly the play "A Walk With Mr. Peets and Miss Perky"
was performed. The play had different animals talking and singing about health and
safety. Playing the parts of cats I top, from the left) were Skye Lantinga, Joanne Josling
